About this item

  • Schedule 40 PVC construction for strength and resistance to corrosion and mild chemicals
  • EPDM seal for resistance to water and oils
  • Maximum pressure rating of 150 psi
  • Full flow construction for insignificant flow loss at swing check
  • 2" female slip connections

This Valterra 200-20W check valve is made of white schedule 40 PVC (polyvinyl chloride) for strength and resistance to corrosion and mild chemicals. Its EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) seal resists degradation caused by water and oils, and its full flow construction allows for insignificant flow loss at the swing check, so no spring is needed. It has 2" slip connections at both ends, which must be fastened with glue, and a maximum pressure rating of 150 pounds per square inch (psi). This check valve is suitable for use with landscape and irrigation, pool and spa, aquaculture, and general purpose applications.

Check valves have two ports and restrict the flow of fluids and other loose materials through a pipe or passageway to one direction. Flow enters through one port and exits through the other, closing when flow reverses or stops. Two common types of check valves are ball cone valves and swing check valves. A ball cone valve utilizes a spring-loaded ball seated against a cone-shaped interior surface to stop the flow of fluid in a forward direction, and a swing check valve has a movable disc on a hinge to block reverse flow. Check valves are rated by their cracking pressure (the minimum upstream pressure required for the valve to operate), and they are used in various water, gas, air, and steam lines.

Valterra Products manufactures and distributes valves, hoses, sewer systems, and pool and spa products. The company, founded in 1981, is headquartered in Mission Hills, CA.

I have two of these placed on my pond, one at the skimmer intake and one at the drain intake. They are working well with no issues.

I was let down by a different check valve… mostly because I didn’t get the right kind. With this one I took a little more care and did more research and am now very happy. This valve works really well in my rain barrel installation. I have it installed vertically and it seals well and reliably with unpressurized gravity flow. Excellent, would recommend.

This is just simply not a 2 inch non return valve. Outside diameter not 2 inches, inside diameter is not 2 inches, complete waste of money.

Easy to install and used as a check valve to keep water in the line when running a backyard waterfall. If we turn the pump off it holds the water until we power up the pump, even hours later.Could not find anything like this at several swimming pool stores and this valve has minimal impact on water flow.EDIT: I thought the water flow was weak and sure enough the flapper came apart and was flopping around. Replacement is the only option along with $25 in fittings.

From testing outside of the pipes I installed it in, it does what I want. The pool pump opens the swing flap easily with almost zero pressure. The opening is large enough so as not to restrict flow. The only question is "will it last"?. That's why I won't give the check valve top marks right now. It may ultimately deserve them, but I won't know that until after a few years of use. So far, it's fine, but time will tell.
