Does it's job, loud and clear. Doesn't take much space.

I bought two types of whistles-- the JetScream and the SOL Slim Rescue Howler-- because I was trying to decide between the two. I decided to give a test try to both inside the house, which in retrospect, was probably a poor choice. Now, because I was at the epicenter of the chaos that ensued, I cannot tell you if there is an overt difference between the two as to which carries farther or sounds stronger. However, I can tell you that upon blowing both in quick succession, I caused what will forever go down in history as the Great Cat EXPLOSION of 2016, in which all three cats instantaneously began to race frantically on their bellies as if the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse were upon them. I also lost most hearing for about an hour.SO, now you know. This whistle works. It works well. Don't use it inside. Don't use it near pets. Plug your ears.

For backpacking this is a must have! Anyone enjoying the great unpredictable outdoors knows this hands down! However, there are many uses in an urban environment also. That's what I bought it for. Alone in the yard, with children playing? Accidents and pool drownings happen too often. Yes, a cell phone is always necessary to have handy, but until help arrives a loud whistle to signal a neighbor to come outside and help, could save a life. Also, I bought a few for each family member and a couple friends to have with them while commuting to work early in the morning on public transportation. A young professional man in our neighborhood was held up at gun point early in the morning on his way walking to the train. Thieves wanted his backpack. It makes sense that any adult carrying a laptop backpack early in the morning on the way to work must be carrying a laptop inside, which he was. Easy pickings for a mugger. Thankfully, he wasn't hurt because he screamed and other commuters walking nearby came to help. The thieves ran. This last week commuters screamed for a subway driver to stop the train as a man got his arm stuck in the door and was being dragged by the train. The driver dragged the poor man several yard before he heard the screams. Now for sure this whistle would have helped in a situation like that. Also, we use ours for when we walk our elderly dog. If anything happens to him and we can't carry him, or if he's attacked by another dog, this whistle will certainly bring a neighbor outside to help. Hopefully, it might even scare an attacking dog away.I'm glad I have it in my pocket even when I'm going up and down to the basement in case I fall down the stairs. Any lady should definitely have one always at the ready when walking alone. Mace can spray back at you. Nobody can hear a mace can being sprayed, but they'll hear this whistle!Last point is working in a high rise building is scary in these times. If anything happens that requires a rescue, having a whistle in your pocket to signal the Firemen of your location is vital. Watch Chicago Fire, a really great television show. The first thing the firemen yell when arriving at a rescue scene is for the victim to, "Call out!" This isn't being over paranoid, it's solving a problem before it happens. I can think of a million uses for this whistle, but like insurance, I hope and pray I never have to use it, but I'm sure glad I have it. Safe travels :)P.S. Oh yes, I forgot. The whistle is sturdy. Isn't hard to blow, floats and certainly is LOUD! I keep it attached very nicely to my cellphone case. It's always with me.

Do not use this indoors. I repeat, do not use this indoors. I made that mistake on the day it arrived and gave myself tinnitus for a few days afterwards. For reasons I still do not entirely understand, I took this right out of the package and gave it a good solid blow right there in the marble-tiled foyer. Daggers of pain assaulted my precious, irreplaceable ears as the enormity of my mistake sank in. My two poor dogs ran to hide under my bed and wouldn't come out until dinnertime.I'm still not sure that my hearing has fully returned. This whistle is loud, light, and brightly colored for high visibility. It works when wet and I love the slim flat lines of it, which make it easy to tuck into clothing (unlike bulky rounded versions). But seriously--do not use this indoors.

I was a little disappointed that this whistle wasn't louder for the price. However it is solidly constructed and this version (the orange one) is highly visible. I attached it to my neck knife and I'll say so far the lanyard on the whistle is very sturdy I've pulled on it and hung it on things and it hasn't broken. Overall it's a good whistle but I expected it to be louder for the price and brand name.

Pros:-Loud, high pitched, shrieking sound.-Lightweight.-Was easily able to feed the small lanyard into my keychain (I bought the Jet Scream as a safety device for when I go jogging on a fairly secluded path).Cons:-The price has definitely fluctuated on this item; I think it depends on how many are in stock. I paid $10.44 which is a bit overpriced. It's at $7 now, which seems about right.Notes:-I think this whistle is categorized as a toy on Amazon. It really isn't. The sound is extremely high pitched and fairly painful on the ears. If you're buying a whistle as a toy, I'd recommend a traditional police whistle style.

I bought one before & after liking it so much I bought more. One for the car. One for the survival kit, etc. What more can I say. It's loud & the orange makes it highly visible. Just don't use it in a room. I almost blew my ears out in doing so. Other reviewers say it's not that loud. Sorry, I'm not a talented whistler like some other people. This is louder than I can ever whistle with two fingers so I can't complain. I don't understand why Amazon asks me questions about this being a toy in this review. It's not a toy & I would instruct kids to use this only in an emergency or otherwise as a means of signaling someone.
