It does have more a spot light spread. But that is okay because I need to see the street in front of my house better. I can see traffic fairly well at night. Clear view of my fence line and mailbox. Yeah is glows red if you are looking for such things. But about all devices with IR lighting can be seen at certain angles. So far so good so will see how it goes.

After setting up my first 12 bulb floodlight by resting it against a window that had a RING doorbell outside the back door, I purchased 5 more. The first one that is still at this window, I monitored it for weeks for anything that may be a problem and cause it to overheat and found nothing even a slight bit warm for the amount of unseeable light it produced. Now I have 9 RING cameras with these floodlights that gives me incredible 360-degree surveillance of the main house and all outbuildings. This photo shows the location of one of these floodlights mounted under the top deck railing illuminating hundreds of feet into our back forest. I think you can imagine what 6 of these can do without an intruder knowing that they are being monitored. Simply amazing the advancement of night vision cameras and supplemental infrared lighting.

We have Nest cameras outside our house. Like many similar cameras, the night vision (brightness and clarity) is not great because of the infrared light source on the cameras themselves. To improve that, you need to supplement the available infrared light by installing these devices. HOWEVER, these are too bright and the field is too narrow. I improved this by placing a piece of diffusion paper (for photographers) inside the device, between the light and the glass. The infrared light is not glaringly bright to the camera anymore and the light is cast over a wider area now. The diffusion paper is cheap to buy. On a side note, these devices lasted 2 or 3 years when fully exposed to the elements outside. Still worth it!

I bought this IR light almost a year ago. It did a stellar job for about 9 months and then stopped working. I contacted the seller and it was replaced in a week. Excellent responsiveness! With this kind of support, I felt comfortable buying another one, but this time, with 6 LEDs instead of 12. The 12 LED version is SUPER bright! I mean, almost too bright! The 6 LED version didn't come with a power supply, but it is also just about perfect. The LEDs give off a visible red light that you can easily see when you look at the light itself, but otherwise it's invisible.

This just arrived a few days ago after a little confusion about delivery date. It actually arrived much faster than suggested on the website. Initial impressions are very good.Case is cast aluminum and appears to be well made and sealed. One caveat: where the power cable enters the housing, there is a nut which I assumed to be a waterproof gland that grips the cable tightly to provide strain relief. However, I discovered that a slight pull revealed the two wires within, so there is no strain relief. No damage was done and it took a few minutes to open the case and put a zip tie around the cable. (See pic.) Shouldn't be necessary but was easy enough to do. That the entrance isn't truly waterproof is not critical as it's on the bottom of the case where no water would likely be present anyway. A dab of silicone seal would seal it.Performance-wise, it does very well. The usable range is quoted as about 100' (30m) but I found that it did acceptably well to a measured 180' (55m) as the attached pics show. The camera is a HikVision 8mp analogue unit. They were taken with the camera's IR "on" but the difference is negligible with it off. . I could see two coyotes even when they were nearly at the tree line. (They are not in the sample pic.) As with all IR illumination, rain near the camera really "lights up", however. The AC-DC adaptor consumes 16w @ 120v. I tried splicing another DC lead into the cable that supplies 12v to the camera but the IR output was reduced, so it does need to be independently powered. The one unknown is long-term durability, which remains to be seen. But I just ordered another one to augment the camera on the other side of the property, which is only about 90' to the fence line. An initial test showed that the area was very well lit.(Updated Oct.13)

Item arrived well packaged and undamaged. Nothing was loose inside the metal housing of the light. I have had a few Chinese flood lights like this before with loose items rolling around inside which is unsettling. This one was solid and felt like decent quality. Anyhow, everything works on it. All of the IR LEDs work. I am using this IR light to supplement the built in IR of the Nest Outdoor Cam, which is very weak. It worked better than expected. The coverage in my backyard is wide without any noticeable hotspots. It makes for a very nice flood IR light experience providing light as far back as about 100 feet and wide as about also 100 feet. It came with a power supply that I plugged into an outdoor power outlet which is about three feet away from the light. I noticed after about 7 hours of usage that it does not get hot to the touch. Just barely warm to the touch. The light sensor works perfectly at turning the IR light on at dusk and off at dawn. So this is after using it for about a week. I will provide an update after a few months in our South Dakota winter to see how it holds up. Fingers crossed. At night, you do clearly see the gentle glow of 12-red led lights. Any burglar would notice this and probably be confused by what it is. It looks kind of Sci-Fi-ish. So far it is well worth the $39 I paid and I am pleased more than I thought I would be.

I needed this or something like it to illuminate my bird feeders to understand how the racoons were bypassing my deterrents.I'm not a heavy user, yet, of IR illuminators, and I wanted to illuminate the feeder from just outside the kitchen window. So I bought the biggest one in my price range. this one.it was pretty bright but was dropping off by about the feeder. About 30 feet away. The motion detection wouldn't detect the racoons even though I could see them through the camera.I am using MotionEyeOS on Raspberry Pi Zero-W with the Pi NOIR camera. That combination detected me just fine walking around at night by the feeder. Just not the Racoon. So it's quite possible the CoonCam was considering the racoon against the dirt and leaf litter as noise to despeckle? or not enough contrast? My eye could discern the racoon - but It was also far dimmer than myself. So a motion detection issue? Or perhaps just detecting raccoons at night against leaf litter just requires tons of illumination?I moved the Illuminator close and that solved the problem - though to note the illuminator brightness - the reflection off a 8" round deterrent pipe was "white" in the picture. So it's certainly saturating the camera in that area.So far - OK - and I know it'd work farther viewing humans.CONS: After some heavy rains it fogged up inside. So the weather seal isn't perfect. I think for permanent installation It may need to be under the eaves.

Works very well covers my whole garden. Supplements the pathetic infrared illumination of my D-Link CCTV camera. I had struggled to find a decent quality infrared illuminator of reasonable size at a sensible price. This fits the bill nicely and has worked flawlessly for the past six weeks or so.
