Try to choose those trees with diameter of 10 inches to 20 inches to practice.

I took one of the gaffs out of the box and noticed one of the rivets was already broken. I took the other gaff out of the box and noticed three of the rivets were broken. The rivets are undersized or just cheap and I can't understand why a company would skemp on a 20 cent rivet. You have to climb up to 60 feet up a tree and the gaffs are the only thing keeping you on the tree. DO NOT BUY THESE GAFFS!

Finally got to use these and they did the job on the way up, but about 25 feet up a tree one of the straps holding the cushion in place broke a rivet. Few feed later the other one did too. Now I’m 30 feet up a tree and the metal frame is digging into my leg. Ended up climbing down in agony and damaging a nerve in my leg, couldn’t feel my toes for a month. They look good but quality is just garbage. Would not recommend these to anyone and now it’s too late to return. Do not buy!

These were bought for a friend who is in Jamaica. He wanted them to take to his property there. Won't be back till November so I can't ask him.

The description stated they are tree gaffs, but they arrived with pole gaffs. They can be used on trees with tight bark but if he bark is thick you need longer tree gaffs. I have contacted the seller and they don't have any long gaffs. He said he could make customized gaffs, but I'm not sure what the cost will be. The so called Leather used for the straps may not hold up long, will have to wait and see after a few uses. Will update this once I have several climbs with them.

These tree climbing spikes are well made and fit me very well such that they move when I move and there is no slop as I take the next step up the tree. They were even delivered earlier than promised.
