Product Description

HumiChar

What is HumiChar?

HumiChar is an organic, carbon-based soil amendment containing 50% high-quality humic acid and 50% granulated biochar. This combination of material provides the benefit of the quickly available humic acid, and the long-term soil building qualities of the biochar that will last for decades. Both humic and biochar add carbon into the soil and increase microbial activity, resulting in greater nutrient holding in the soil and better processing in the plant.

humichar soil

Why Humic and Biochar

Biochar's primary benefits are to the soil. It lasts decades, working to build the soil profile over time. Humic acid's primary benefits are to the way soil delivers nutrients to the plant. This can be noticed more quickly but does not have as long lasting affect as biochar. HumiChar combines the properties of each material that benefits the soil and the plant, both immediately and over time.

The humic acid and biochar in HumiChar is beneficial to all soil types. Both of these organic materials will not cause harm from over application like a fertilizer. They can be applied at any time, in any amount and as often as desired.

Reach Roots Faster

HumiChar features Dispersible Granule (DG) Technology, which allows particles to disperse when watered. The DG Technology helps the humic acid, and especially the biochar, move past the thatch layer of your lawn or the mulch in your garden bed, and into the soil without any raking, digging, or tilling. Other products with biochar have chunks of organic material that are dusty and messy. These products have to be worked into the soil to reach the root zone and be effective.

HumiChar

Where to Use HumiChar

HumiChar

Established Lawns

Apply HumiChar anytime during the growing season to lawns. The general rate of application is 5 – 10 pounds per 1000 square feet of turf / lawn. Apply more heavily if desired.

HumiChar

New Lawns and Sod Installations

Grass seed planting and sod Installations are a great opportunity to get HumiChar deep into the soil quickly. After tilling HumiChar into the soil, proceed with planting and sod installation as normal.

HumiChar

Gardens and Landscaping Beds

Apply HumiChar around the plants or work into the soil using roughly 1/2 cup of material per plant base area. Apply more heavily if desired.

This is what you want in your soil. A handful of this and a handful of some good worm poo and you are set. This is per a 5 gallon container, adjust for size of course. But this and worm vermicompost will make your plants insanely happy.

Okay, I know it does work to dissolve and work itself into the soil. I love the DG technology of the Anderson's products. As to giving instant satisfaction, I cannot attest as while I use this and other soil amendments and fertilizers. The results I observe is that the grass continues to grow and is only lacking the moisture. FYI, this product will do nothing to improve your soil analysis for the basic testing done by the ag-labs.

I use this every uear during the spring and summer on my TifTuf Bermuda and Zeon Zoysia lawn and love it. It really feeds the soil and you see the results in turf. You can use practically as much as you want with no harm. Price is a little high but I buy the 40lb back for multiple applications. What I do find misleading about this product is it states it is a 50/50 mix of biochar and humic acid yet right there on the back, it states 32.00% humic acid and 42.96% biochar. Not sure how this is 50/50, but doesn't take away from my 5 star rating.

This product is nothing short of a miracle! My partner often unintentionally damages our lawn—whether it’s from letting the mower stall and causing blade burns, or mistakenly over-fertilizing and not watering properly. But every time, this product swoops in and saves the day. In addition, it quickly addresses those unsightly dog urine burn spots left by inconsiderate neighbors. We live in an area that is HOT and with clay soil so this stuff really gets the soil healthy to repair damage. New grass takes root quickly, and before you realize it, the lawn is restored to its former glory. The secret formula feels like pure magic! Although it’s a bit on the expensive side, it has consistently proven to be a lifesaver for our turf. So, when my partner’s lawn care gets a bit reckless, I take charge of the repairs, and with Andersons, we rest easy knowing we’ll have a lush lawn again before long.

This is long, BUT READ THIS before wasting your money on other products.I've been attempting to fix my turf since 2021, when I moved into my new home. I initially hired a lawn service, but the success was short-lived.Last fall, I took matters into my own hands by dethatching, scarifying, and overseeding. After minimal success with germination (I took all the steps to protect the seeds and keep them moist), my lawn came up thin and light green in the spring. Despite heavy rains, my soil was still hard as a rock. My soil pH was high, so I bought Mag-I-Cal to lower the pH. I also bought Love Your Soil to loosen the hard clay. Those also had short-lived success. I knew my soil was the problem. The pH came down slightly, but the soil remained compact. I realized that years of fertilizer and over-irrigation by the previous owners had probably built a carbon deficiency and sodium chloride concentration. I read up on this product. It's everything you need to condition your soil on a more permanent basis. The charred component makes space for healthy microbes and the humic component feeds the microbes.I used fungicide to treat lawn disease this season, but as this product layers into the soil and improves water retention at greater depths with healthier root structures, I've had fewer indications of disease. I also have fewer urine burn spots from my dogs. The soil pH has neutralized as the soil retains more rain water (which is slightly acidic in my area).I treat my lawn with this every 2-3 weeks at a light/moderate rate with plans to continue to do so as it moves deeper into the soil.Start with your soil. Treat it heavily for 1 season before scaling back to maintenance applications. Cut your grass high and help the roots grow deep. Healthy turd is resilient and needs less care. I'll swear by this product and won't switch to Humic DG or PGF Complete for humic content until my soil is fully amended. This product is worth the money.

I agree with everyone else here, this stuff is a GAME-CHANGER for your entire YARD, not just the lawn! Sprinkle it in your flowers too, anything you want *bolder*! If you have nothing but rock-hard clay like me, it will transform it into root-stretching gold. I want to say it’s NOT an over-night result.. but for ME it was! Now, my lawn was not horrible to begin with, but I chased green with lots of fertilizers & water but had TONS of bound up roots (thatch) because of the clay. This stuff INSTANTLY loosened things up (better than dethatching) & began holding water like a sponge. You could feel it when walked on it. As a result, LESS watering & less fertilizer!($$$) Win-win. I would HIGHLY recommend aerating FIRST & if you *really* want improvement, put down some Earth Science Gypsum too. I just wish I knew about BOTH products earlier, like decades ago.

After watching a “how to with doc” video on YouTube on taking care of fescue, I could tell he couldn’t recommend this product enough. After reading up on the science of biochar and the benefits of humic acid for lawns, I decided to give it a try. My soil is an extremely dense clay. So I’m hoping this does the job. So I’m going to use it the rest of this summer and all summer next year and I’ll update on the progress. It spread very easily and after a short watering, the biochar broke down almost instantly and as far as lawn stuff goes, that’s a plus. So far I’m happy with this and will continue to use and update soon.**Update:My lawn looks amazing this year.
