I got these to Use as extra thick nuts on my air bag brackets that install on the leaf springs. Should provide plenty of bite on the bolts.

Carbon Steel Coupling Nut, Black Oxide Finish, 1/2"-13 ThreadsThese nuts are an example of why so many of us try buy "Made in USA" products. Strong carbon steel, black oxide finish (similar to gun barrel bluing), and flawless machining and threads. There is no room for improvement. My application needed the strongest 1/2" x 13 nuts available, so I examined the specs of all the coupling nuts (essentially extra-long nuts) available on the Internet. I found that stainless steel 1/2" x 13 couplers use a 5/8" socket, which means their side walls are only 1/16" thick at their thinnest. If tons of pulling force were applied to such a nut, it would probably break apart. Standard non-stainless 1/2" nuts use a 3/4" socket, so they are stronger. These carbon steel nuts fit a 7/8" socket (or open end wrench), so their 3/16" side walls are three times thicker than stainless steel couplers and 50% thicker than those other couplers.I recently noticed that one end of a 16" wall projection had pulled away from the house by 1/4" and dropped down 3/16" during the 35 years we've been living here. To fix this, I fashioned an assembly using dual 1/2" threaded stainless steel rods 1/4" plate steel and other hardware that performs the function of a double heavy duty turnbuckle. Tightening these coupling nuts applies serious compression force, which drew the cantilevered wall up and in, where it's supposed to be. Regular 1/2" x 13 nuts have too few threads to sustain such a force -- hence the need for these super strong coupling nuts. See project photo.
