Great build and quality while being a “budget” compass. It’s as accurate as all my other high end compasses. Liked it so much I bought the mirror version of the Sun compass too and both are well built and totally worth the investment. I also own various Silva and Suunto compasses but the Sun is one of my go-to’s

Haven't taken hiking yet. But it does seem to function out of the box.

Comparing to other similar price point compass such as Silva Starter the Sun Compass has better features. I compared the accuracy to my Silva Ranger 2 & Brunton TruArc 3 and all 3 were spot on. Overall a great entry level compass with good features.

This product worked alright at the beginning. But high humidity in the cold rendered it unusable. Needed it for Search and Rescue. Sad to say I would not rely on it in the winter, even stored in my inside pocket of parka.

What a value for how well it works. The arrow spins around at a nice speed and points to Santa’s work shop. Great for hiking and land navigation. Buy it and hit the trails to make some memories.

It does look good in the photo, almost like a Silva. But looks can be deceiving.Yes, it does have a declination scale, but no, it isn't adjustable. It's pretty much replicating the top bezel degree markings, but on a flat surface under the bezel (and westerly is 1-90, just like easterly)Their suggestion is to use a permanent marker to draw lines across the declination scale when you arrive at your destination, then later remove them with alcohol. Sounds simple, but what if you don't have a marker, or what if you marked it in NM then your next trip is in AK? I'd just as soon ignore the entire scale and adjust using the bezel markings. The second gripe is the needle is off balance. North sags downward and south can rub the the compass from inside. Mind, that's not always going to happen but the risk is there. A hurried glance, or reestablishing my bearing while walking could easily succumb to this problem. The solution is obvious; stop, be still, check for compass tilt, take the bearing. Most compasses I have aren't this problematic, especially my M3.That's all the grips I have (not all that needs tweaking but the rest is nit-picking).I like the 1:24K and 1:63.5K scales. I do travel to other continents so more scales are appreciated on my global compasses. I don't understand Silva and Suunto exporting compasses to the US and not placing 1:24K/1:63.5K scales on them It's like exporting cars to the US with right-hand steering and all measures in metric. Car makers won't sell too many if that's the only markings on the cars they sell here.Sun Compass got this right. Our maps are USGS; we aren't going to redo them to make the international compass companies happy.
