Literally all point a different direction. Completely useless as a compass as not at all reliable.

Bought several to teach our Federation of North-American Explorers group orienteering. This is a good basic compass. - A little big for the younger boys to easily hold in 1 hand comfortably but good for older boys, adults, etc. - The lanyard is a nice-to-have to avoid having to hold or put in pockets when you want it close by but don't need it at the moment. - Helpful to measure distances on a map, to enhance the value of learning the map-and-compass skill by the boys. - The display is easy to read, and the needle is fully colored Red to point North (vs. just a dot on some other compasses I have seen). - Does not handle declination, but that was beyond the scope of our lessons. - Watch-out!! Slow to get it accurate as the needle moves a lot before settling. Also sensitive to other magnetic items and may not be a perfect read.I have recommended that each of our boys buy 1 of these for their day pack as one of the "Ten Essentials of Hiking!" A good item to have handy at a good price.

I have purchased this brand before and the compasses work fine (I use them in Boy Scouts). 3 of the 6 that I recently purchased have issues with the needle - the needle sits at an angle and does not rotate, no matter what I try. I'm not sure if the needle is out of balance, the supporting post has an issue, or what. I'm not going to go through the hassle of returning them, but I will not purchase this brand again.

I got these to teach orienteering, and I look forward to using these for our Rover scouts!Checked all 6, and the compasses are fine; only one had a needle that was sticking a bit, but after fiddling with it, it works fine. It looks like the compasses have oil for the needle to rotate in. All the markings are in good shape. The bezels are firm and rotate nicely.Don't put compasses all next to each other or near electronics/magnetized items to use, otherwise the needles will go wonky. Make sure they're alone and level to rotate and orient properly.

5 of the 6 are good. 1 came with no liquid in it so it doesn't work. They were cheap so too much of a bother to return for a new one.

Bought this pack to do a lesson on navigation with our kids. Price for value pack allowed each kid to have their own. I would use these for group lessons but wouldn't trust them for navigation. Highly variable north needle, and inconsistent even within a compass, but provided a very cost effective way for teaching the kids while allowing each to have a compass to hold and use while we went through proper use.

Bright yellow makes them easier to find when left somewhere. Easy to hold and read. Kids like to use the neck strap. Buyer Beware: One of the compasses had reverse polarity. If your North arrow points South, run a strong magnet over it a few times until it points North. No need to return it.
