This one was a surprise, it is better quality than you would expect. Feel solid, functions well. Allowing me to introduce how to use a compass to my kids. Case and lanyard are a bonus.

I was not expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised. I need a compass quick for a Land Navigation class and I ordered this one. It has all the same features as the military one I had and even a few extras. It is surprisingly durable, but I haven't tried to use it like a hammer yet.

Was a gift for son that's going into Cub scouts. Was a good size for a kid. And good price if lost. Seems to be of good quality. Child seems to think it's easy for them to read. And lite enough to carry. Nice that it comes with the pouch.

Very nice land compass, metal case, precision built, all moving parts move smoothly, magnifier built in is clear and works perfectly. Includes an olive canvas-cloth like case that appears to be moisture resistant (not water proof), plus an olive colored lanyard attached to the compass. Glow in the dark bezel easily shows numbers.. Downside is that the lanyard has a loose knot on the end of it, it could use one of those gizmos that lets you shorten the loop. The instruction sheet has printing that is sooo small it takes a magnifier to read, and it needs a better english translation. If you don’t know how to use this type of compass, suggest you get better instructions online somewhere else.Overall, great product for the price.

As a former Land Surveyor I find that this compass is loaded with features that would make it a pro level tool, if not for the extremely poor quality control in their production. The one I received is loaded with as many flaws as it has features.1) Sighting blades are a really handy feature for precision navigation when sighting a bearing, unfortunately this one’s front sight blade is far too short and it sits below the bezel where it can not be seen during sighting procedures.2) The D-ring when folded out, interferes with the hinge to the point of preventing it from being move far enough out of the way to allow the compass to sit flat on any smooth surface.3 & 4) The bubble level is not accurate nor is it calibrated to the direction dial. With the bubble centered in the ring, the direction dial is canted to one side. The dial being canted can cause inaccurate readings if it drags the inner surface of the enclosure. Either way, if you keep the dial somewhat level or evenly spaced in the enclosure, the bubble level is severely off, or vice versa. Placing the compass atop a precision machinist’s level and centering the bubbles on it, the compass’ level settles out at about the 10 O-clock position. And again the dial is canted high at the 210 degree mark as well. Not sure if the added weight of the iridescent paint is causing the dial to cant low on the north side or they failed to properly balance the dial when installing the center needle cup, but either way something there is not right.5) The little red marker on the outer ring which should be aligned with the front sight groove is (or was) about 2 degrees left of center. I did manage to remove the bezel without breaking anything and got the marker properly centered, although there isn’t much room for adjustment.In spite of the quirts, flaws and/or assembly errors, I’m still rating this with 4 stars out of the off chance that I got a bad pick of the litter, and hopefully the one you get will be far better. After all, the features that this compass is loaded with, still make it a worthy purchase for the low low cost. It may not be a survey precise instrument but it is still decent enough to allow one to navigate 10 or 20 miles and still be within 500 yards of the intended destination.
