It is nice to know these blades are still made - as I have an OLD OLD planer of my father's. The replacement blade works like a charm.

Ottima lama anche se uguale (almeno alla vista) di quelle più economiche; si affila facilmente ed è durevole nell’affilatura

I don't want to nit-pick too much as this blade ended up working. But seriously...a nick in the edge right out of the package? Come on!?Complaints aside; I wasted 2 days of my life trying to flatten and sharpen a cheap-o noname replacement blade from a different manufacture. And it was a total waste of time. The blade edge would chip out even with simple honing. Enter the Stanley Stanley 12-508. The back was more or less flat right out of the package. The primary bevel was roughly cut, but not totally terrible. But hands down the most important thing; it was able to be sharpened. I was able to polish the chip out of the edge by back lapping and rehoning in about 10 minutes. Compared to the hours I spent with the no-name brand blade it was a dream. Time will tell with edge retention. Either way it was a far less painful experience. If you've had the misfortune of trying to sharpen a Spear & Jackson CBP95 plane...don't bother. Buy this blade (it will fit with minor modifications to the plane) and give decent results. Should have just bought the Stanley plane in the first place!

Hopefully this helps someone avoid the hour of reading Amazon reviews to find out but the 40mm was a perfect replacement blade for Stanley's 12-220. There is a question on this product with an answer from Stanley saying it does not fit but it absolutely does fit mine. (I bought the 12-220 here on Amazon)

Stanley is a shadow of its former self.....this is a relatively soft iron that sharpens easily. It is affordable. There are better available. However, at this price, you can sharpen 3-4 and have one instantly ready. We use a LOT of planes....and put the upgrade blades in our workhorse units. But, for beveling, cleanup, leveling dowels in through tenons, this blade is fine.

Lucky for Stanley I bought this for an odd project where I need to reshape the blade anyway. If I had bought it to put in a planer I would have sent it back. The edge looked like it fell on the shop floor. The seal was intact on the packaging so I assume it left the factory this way, rather than being returned by an unscrupulous customer.Hopefully this was simply a lapse in quality control as other people seemed to have good experiences.

Good price, fits and much better quality than the stock blade that came with the cheap pocket plane. Sharp out of sleeve, but a light hone makes it even better.
