Any good tool is only as good an the blade. This is an excellent blade and holds an edge for a long time.

I recently purchased Wood River blades, a pair of #4-#5 for my old Stanley #4, a ...well.. frankenstein-ish #5 (unidentified sole, Stanley frog, etc) and another blade to fit my old #6 Stanley. The blades arrived well packaged, lightly coated but NOT greasy, well ground, flat, not a single speck of rust. All three planes needed the mouths filed for the blade to clear, due to the massive thickness of the blades (34mm, or 0.13". NOT a problem, at all, merely an inconvenience. From spare parts planes I came up with chip breakers that fit, and breaker screws long enough. Planning on ordering proper chip breakers for these blades soon.Once assembled to where the blade cleared the throat of the mouth, I disassembled and honed the blades, reassembled and gave them a try.Soft shavings, no chatter, no blade vibration from #5 "frankenplane", same with old #6, and learned I had a weakness in the frog seating on #4. So swapped blade over to a Spear and Jackson #4. Definitely no problem with the Wood River blades.Very acceptable price, with such high quality. If these blades can make my boat anchor planes worth using, I cant wait to see what a Wood River #5-1/2 plane is capable of, and plan to order more Wood River tools soon.

I ordered two. One was OK. The other had an unsatisfactory bevel machined on it. Crooked, and not flat across. Took a couple of hours of hand work to set it right. Suggests pretty casual quality control.

I'm sorry, plane iron do not need to this thick. I'm not modifying my plane to fit some snake oil super thick blade in it. Every single new iron maker is making these cool guy thick blades and I don't get it. A regular iron works just fine. Sorry I'm not willing to buy a fancy blade and chipbreaker to use some ultra thick blade. Hock, Cosman, all those guys are in the business of selling stuff and woodriver just copies old designs and has them made in China anyways.

Blade is a lot thicker than std Stanley blade. Even adjusting the frog wouldn’t get it in there. Had to widen the hole in the sole a little over a 1/16” with a file to get it to fit. That said, once it was setup and honed it holds an edge very well, a lot better than a lot of the blades you get these days.

Very nice replacement blade, but with my very old #7 Stanley Bedrock Jointer plane, I had issues installing the blade. The new blade is about twice as thick as the original Stanley blade, In order to make it fit, I had to replace the screw used to hold the blade to the chip breaker. The original was too short to fit the new blade and I couldn't find a new thumb screw. I ended up getting a 1/4"x1/2" phillips head machine screw, which I cut to length (~1/4") and re-thread. After a little work putting a fine polish on the blade, my 120 year old jointer plane is working like brand new.
