Took a sample of a salt water pond, and then compared the results to a local pet shop's numbers and this was exactly the same

Works great and does the job well. I haven’t had issues with it but i recalibrate mine weekly with fresh RODI water.

I used Reverse Osmosis water to calibrate the instrument to 0%, but it never holds at that value the next day. Using a same water source to calibrate it again to 0%, and again the day after it drifts off significantly. Room temperature is the same each day and the water sample as well - I was sure to confirm this. Definitely, this instrument is not worthy or trustworthy. I would stay away from this product unless you want to calibrate it each day - then again, even if you do, would you trust the reading? Had to return the product as a result - tried others, but I believe they are all made from the same source.

I bought this for $15 so I didn't expect much. My old one broke after several years somehow where the read line was on an angle. When I got this and checked with RO/DI water it was reading 6 PPT, which is way off!!!! I recalibrated it to zero with included screwdriver and then checked against some 35 PPT calibration solution I have. It then read dead on at 35. Hopefully this will stay accurate and not drift. It seems like the exact same build as every other refractometer I've had. Fingers crossed.

I was surprised how well this works. As long as you calibrate it with a premixed calibration fluid that you know the salinity of it is easy to get set up. The calibration screw is very touchy and probably easy to break, so be careful when you adjust so you don't over tighten it and break it. Once its set your good to go and it is very accurate. The glass quality is just okay but if you have decent light in the room its readable.

I was using a regular plastic hydrometer, they are not accurate. This one is so accurate and very easy to use. So glad I bought it.
