I've been reef diving for almost 10 years and diving in general for almost 25. One of the biggest problems on a reef, in heavy current, is that you have to kick a lot, burning up your air and causing your camera position to be unstable. This certainly seems like it could solve that problem. When I dive a reef, I would rather give up the perfect picture than to come in contact and damage the reef. But even I will accidentally kick or scull where I shouldn't. I hope that this will eliminate some of the need to kick and scull, and therefore hopefully it will decrease my chances of causing damage to the reef. The hooks themselves appear to be a little bigger than I expected. I've watched training videos on the proper use of these reef hooks. The hooks in those videos seemed to be a bit smaller and the lanyard seemed to be a bit lighter. Bigger hooks means that it will likely be harder to stow when I'm not actually using them. But, it might also mean that it will be easier to deploy and less likely to break the reef. The lanyard feels a bit too heavy. It doesn't seem to want to uncoil as much as I would want. And after it's been uncoiled, it doesn't want to go back to its original shape. It took some manipulating to get it back into a manageable coil.Like every new piece of dive gear, I recommend trying this in a pool, or somewhere safe before you attempt to use it on a dive. I also recommend watchin some of the training video so you know how to properly and safely use it.
