Product Description

WHY DO WE NEED TO USE A REEF HOOK?

- A reef hook is a metal hook designed to be anchored to the reef, allowing divers to attach themselves to a fixed point and remain stationary in strong currents when diving, it's a must-have for divers.

- Our reef hook is made of 316 stainless steel with a 15cm/5.9inches length strong hook, attached to a retractable cord is up to 1.3m/51.18inches and both ends are safety clips for secure attachment to your BCD.

HOW TO USE THE REEF HOOK?

1. Find A Suitable Location

Look for a spot on the reef suitable for anchoring a reef hook. This should be an area that is away from delicate coral or other sensitive organisms and should be strong enough to withstand the force of the current.

2. Deploy The Reef Hook

Deploy the reef hook by attaching it to a secure point on the reef. Be sure to attach it to a sturdy piece of coral or rock, and avoid touching any delicate organisms or damaging the reef in any way.

3. Attach Yourself To The Hook

Once the reef hook is securely anchored, attach yourself to it by clipping your safety clip or another attachment point to the hook.

4. Observe The Environment

Once you are attached to the reef hook, take some time to observe the surrounding environment. Look for interesting marine life, and take photos or video footage if desired. Be sure to avoid touching or disturbing any of the wildlife, and respect the surrounding ecosystem at all times.

5. Remove The Reef Hook

Once you are ready to move on, remove the reef hook by carefully unhooking it from the anchor point on the reef. Be sure to avoid touching any delicate organisms or damaging the reef.

I used this in the Maldives. I had never done reef hooking before. It easily attached to my BC and easily hooked and held on dive sites. Well made and strong yet light weight for travel.

I used this device a few times while on a live aboard dive trip in Palau recently. I liked this product's ability to retract when it was released from the hardpan. I also liked that it had carabiner type clasps at the end of the cable and also the hook end of the cable making it easy to stow onto my BCD.I found in use that the length of the cable was a little short. I was able to fix this by using a simple high strength cord. The addition of the cord gave me additional line to "fly" over the hardpan at a little greater height thus helping to keep my fins off of nearby coral if any. I think that the cord that I used was about 5-6' long. I don't recall exactly because I returned the cord to the liveaboard dive boat that I was on. Now that I'm home, I plan to build my own supplemental cord using 3mm utility cord; and I plan to add this tool to my kit for future use.

Just got back from Palau in which we had strong currents at times and specific spots to “hook in” to watch the sharks. Very easy to hook in and to release.

Reef hooks are an invaluable tool for drift dives or underwater photography – but used incorrectly, may cause permanent reef damage or even place yourself and others at risk. Detailed information on their use is easily available online, including YouTube. This robust single hook checks all the boxes. It features an easily deployable coil (not a rope or webbing that can tangle) encased in translucent TPU (vinyl). Two marine-grade stainless steel carabiners with strong wire gate tension allow secure clipping to a BC. The beveled hook tip helps minimize unnecessary risk.I look forward to using it!
