I went through 2 different digital testers that weren't reliable before going back to this refractometer. It works perfectly. The instructions were easy to understand and I was able to calibrate it easily. It's nice that a screwdriver is included for the calibration as well. The eye piece focuses well and I can easily read the salinity in my water.

I use a well known conductivity based checker as my main salinity checker. I am comparing my results to that.I calibrated my new refractometer using the enclosed instructions. It was simple and easy to follow. The numbers inside are also easy and clear to read. The device itself was almost perfectly calibrated out of the box only requiring a very minor adjustment.However when I tested my tank's water it claimed a salinity of 38 ppt which is really high. My target is 35 ppt. I grabbed my conductivity checker to compare. It read 33.7 ppt. However I hadn't calibrated in 6 months so it seemed like a good time to do that. After calibration it was now reading 34.7 which is in line with what I was expecting. This is a far cry from the 38 the refractometer was reading. My conductivity tester is well known in the industry for their accuracy and the device is only 7 months old so I'm putting my trust in that over this product. I suspect the problem is because this doesn't come with calibration fluid and instedd relies on calibrating to 0 using pure water vs a known non-zero value close to your target.I will gladly update my review once I have a separate device and can verify which of the two is the real measurement.
