About this item

  • Use With A Standard Pencil: Don’t fuss with similar drawing compass tools that require you use a custom lead writing utensil. Ours allows you to use any #2 pencil.
  • Carry In Your Toolbox – Unlike a Beam Compass : Draw circles and arcs of varying radius’ with our retractable circle drawing tool that measures just 5” long when contracted.
  • Use It For Variable Straight Edges Too: Just flip it over and our measuring tape compass becomes a straight edge tool. Mark your desired distance from an edge with ease.
  • Metric And Imperial Measurements Up to 6ft Long: Unless you need a circle drawn with a diameter larger than 12 feet, Rocksteel’s rotating tape measure will get the job done.
  • Measurement NOT OFF by 2 inches: The tape measure measures the distance from the center point where the pin is placed to where the pencil is. Some users are thinking the accuracy is off because the tape starts at ~ 2.5" rather than 0, it is inaccurate. However, that is the distance between pencil & center when the tape is fully retracted. See Image #2 for clarification.

An Alternative To A Beam Compass To Draw Arcs & Circles

For what it is, seems a bit over priced. Works well, though.

First it showed up without the center pin. I used a nail. The second time I used it the mechanism that allows the tape measurer to stay at a locked position fell apart. The concept is a good idea but it is very cheaply made. I will look for a different tool for drawing large circles.

Great idea....however the centering pin that's included with the device doesn't work. You can use your own center pin if you can find something that fits. Great idea poor execution!

One of those items that most of us use very infrequently, but makes circle marking in woodworking or crafts so much easier than looking for the right sized lid, glass, etc. If you’re considering it, order it now and you will use it and be glad you had it.

The order I got was missing the pin needle from the package, but honestly I wouldn't have kept this even if it was. The build quality on this is quite bad with a weak plastic construction, and the design has some odd quirks too - for example the button sticks out loosely and exposes the internals slightly whenever the tape measure is not fully retracted. I ended up returning mine.

Considering how much this costs, I'm very disappointed.I have been searching forever for a compass that can actually draw large circles. It is almost impossible to tighten pencil holder screw, it's extremely hard to turn and actually hurts.I ended up having to use my shirt over my thumb. Not sure how the pin actually works as when you put it in the designated hole, it's not exactly sitting in there tightly. Quite a bit of give.Save your money. 😑

I use this to layout circles in logs that I am going to chainsaw into blanks for my lathe. It allows me to set the depth to smallest edge of the log but yield the largest blank. Love it. I wish it had a holder built in for the pin you use to hold the center. If you loose it, you can just use a small nail.
