This compass is beautiful and clear. To read the inclinometer, it needs to be installed at about eye level, or just below, which makes the dual reading card only really good for direct reading, so that needs to be taken into account when considering mounting position. It would work perfectly on a boat, however, like all magnetic compasses, it is sensitive to ferro-magnetic metals and can be thrown off, so it won't work if you're trying to mount it to a steel dash. Instructions are included to help.

Replaced my compass after 39 years on my Santa Cruz 27 Night Wind. This model Ritchie was a perfect fit and looks and works great. Highly recommend this for sailboats with an inclined bulkhead. The outer and interior covers complete a slick installation.
