This product claims it can be mounted any way. As you can see from the photo it can’t. Also when held the right way up the compass does not sit flat. I have contacted customer service and there was no apology, no suggestion of a refund. Simply let me know that they will change the product description. They will have to change their photos too.

Very fluid and stable motion. One of the easiest to read cards Ive seen on a hand bearing compass. The card also has opposing reading making it very practical for overhead viewing. Very robust mounting sleeve and easily removed for use or storage. I highly recommend this compass over all the other hand units on the market!

The compass card will not orient. It is stuck upside down.

I like the way this compass can be mounted on either a horizontal (over or under) or vertical surface. It can take a substantial inclination (as on a sailboat) before it gets pinned. The dial is large enough for me to see from about four feet away. In a pinch, it can be used as a handheld bearing compass, although sighting over the lubber line involves a little visual estimating. On the downside, there is no built-in provision for compensating, but then this is not intended to get you across the ocean. I would recommend this compass to a recreational boater.

I was hoping to get the backlighted model, which amazon.com does not offer. I use this compass in sail boat mostly sailing in the Puget Sound area and sometimes at night. I have to use a flashlight to read this compass, or carry it in my pocket - not very convenient.
