It's an okay waterer in general. But, we purchased this because it was recommended when we purchased the heater strap to keep the water from freezing. It does work on the water in the bucket but the cups still freeze, and that just defeats the whole purpose. So, the two items together didn't really work for our needs/wants like we thought it would.

This is a cheap flimsy product. Lid is hard to open. I know this product will not last, so I am returning it.This is not easy to use because the lid is too hard to open. Cone top just sits on top. My chickens will knock it off. The cups are flimsy. I am really disappointed in this brand and product.

I know some people have had problems with this product, but mine has worked great! No complaints! Since the cups hang down below the bottom of the container, I followed the suggestion of another purchaser and put this unit on a concrete block, which has worked out well. The unit is easy to clean and the plug in the top makes it easy to add water each day without removing the whole top. I have found spraying the cups with water from a hose is the easiest way to get any collected dirt out. Would highly recommend and would buy it again.

This was the second waterer I ordered from Rent a Coop. Both have been excellent. I love the fact that they send extra parts "just in case." I have never needed them, but it is very thoughtful. Doesn't leak and easy to fill. Cleaning the cups is simple.

Update after about 2 months of use:Leaks bad!! No adjustment helps. Ended up having to put a pan underneath because the water leaking makes such a mess. Also, it is a pain to fill due to the bucket not wanting to sit flat on the ground.I was looking for a great quality water dispenser for my chickens. I heard about this company. I'm so glad I decided to purchase this item. I did feel $50 was a bit much but I was happily surprised when the product came with 3 extra cups and directions on our to make another! My chickens took to it right away. It is so nice to not have disgusting water to clean out everyday. Easy to fill. Very happy with it. And no worries my girls are being moved into their new big coop soon!

Edit: I realized a lot of people are complaining about leaking and other issues that I’d like to comment on. We have not had a leaking problem. You do need to tighten the cups..... also, an extra was cup was in the package when delivered. There is a spring mechanism inside the cups, I almost lost one when I was giving it a deep clean. So don’t lose that! Also the design of this waterer is to be filled with a hose through the top. The top is extremely hard to take on and off, so if you are expecting to carry a five gallon bucket back and forth to a faucet to fill up, this is not the waterer for you - just stick a hose through the hole in the top! Don’t take it on and off! That’s crazy. Why are you trying to carry 5 gallons of water anyway? Geez.Original: This was better than expected. There is a hole in the top for easy fill-up with a hose, so I’ve run a hose out to it permanently (see photo). It also came with a triangle perching deterrent. We used a bungee to keep it in place on top of a cinder block because the force of the hose could knock it over if empty. The drinking cups are wide enough for duck beaks, although the ducks would make a mess and they could clog the cups with debris. We used this for several months for 5 ducks and 5 chickens. We would need to fill it daily for them and sometimes pull the debris out of the cups. Ducks have gone to their permanent home, so I expect the water to last a long time and stay clean between filling for only 5 chickens. The cups did freeze with water with a few cold spells we had at the end of winter, but no damage.Highly recommended.

This is my first experience having chickens and all the stuff that comes with them. Now that I know how messy chickens are, I feel great about my choice of waterer. I put ours on a stack of 3 pavers to elevate it. This waterer keeps the water away from anything that would contaminate it, such as dirt, chicken poop, bugs etc. and prevents evaporation. I wasn't sure if the girls would know how to use it since they were used to a round galvanized metal waterer. No problem at all; they figured it out right away. I clean the little cups every few days by swirling the water around with my fingers and then twisting them sideways to empty. Easy peasy! Keep an eye on the main jug, don't wait until it's empty to clean it. 5 gallons is a lot of water and with 5 chickens it takes a long time to drink. I put probiotics in the water and after about 2 weeks it was slimy in there, so I won't do that again. I plan to supply another small water source with probiotics, in addition, so it is used up quickly and doesn't have time to get yucky.

Purchased to hang up, but the handle broke in the first couple months of using it. The girls adapted to using this very quickly with no problem. I haven't had a problem with leaking at all. the cone on top keeps the girls from climbing on top of it. I just wish the handle would have been stronger. I currently have it on a concrete stone to keep it off of the ground. It is also a bit expensive, but I do not have many tools to make one on my own easily.
