Packed nicely in it's own carry case...But..will only read dvd's. It will see a 4k video but won't read it..Unless you flash the firmware! So unless you have some knowledge of this, I wouldn't recommend purchasing it

This drive plugged & played fine on my M4 Pro MacMini. I found no issues about the drive in that regard.I have no concrete plans to ever rip discs, so cannot comment on that functioning. But, weeks before buying & after the research into MakeMKV & VLC, plus other software hacks all went bust -macOS cannot recognize UHD 4K -confirmed by Archgon Support. That's why i bought this. Only that Cyber-something software can read UHD, but it's Windows only.I'm NEVER going into the hardware to rewrite the firmware- but even if, it wouldn't work.Hope this helps if your researching into this -4K is fine. DVDs play fine. Bit noisy, but not a concern at all.So, i give a 4/5. The 4 is for the fact the drive plugs and plays on a Mac fine, but you CANNOT play UHD!

i bought this so i could play a 4k bluray. i attempted to use the recommended software cyberlink, however the cyberlink refused to play the disc. i spent a long time trying different solutions or other software but couldn't find anything that let me play the movie off the disc. i had to rip the movie off of the disc, which let me play it in vlc media player.unless you plan to write/burn any discs i would recommend just getting a 4k player instead of this drive. the extra cost of the buying software like cyberlink (if it even works) ends up costing the same if not more than the money you might save buying this drive over a player

So far so good. I've ripped approximately 4-5 UHD 4k movies in about 1 hour with no issue. Keep in mind this requires additional software to use this feature which is the primary reason I bought this writer. The carrying case is a nice touch with also has a mesh pouch to keep your additional cords. It comes with a standard USB cable which is 2 pronged for additional power as well as a USB-C. These are nice additional touches. The case for the unit is brushed aluminum. Not quite as refines as say and Apple product, but it feels well built. The actual drive inside is pretty well known and so far, has functioned without issue. Obviously, time will tell but it is performing as expected. I will chime back in if I find any issues. Can definitely recommend this unit a the moment.

This is a very solid feeling portable DVD/BluRay drive, capable of reading UHD (4k) Blu Ray disks. It is "Libre Drive" compatible with a firmware update.I knocked off a star because it has a "Micro-B" USB plug into the drive. These have always been problematic as they never seem to seat properly, and in a portable drive it would be good to have something with a more positive connection. The cables are also quite short, so if I move my laptop, I can see the connection to the drive pull out about 1mm on one side. Not a huge deal, it just means you need to set up computer and drive in a stable place (i.e. not on your lap like I had it), and not move it while reading. It comes with two cables, one with USB-C (which I am using), and the other a USB-A cable, which also has a second USB-A plug to add extra power in cases where that is needed.Overall, the drive works well, and met my requirements.

My first impression after receiving and opening the package is that the device itself felt sturdy, if not outright bulky despite its actual slimness, but it's well-built with a rather rough aluminum finish that seems to justify a product marketed as being 'premium'. It comes with a nice portable case that can fit the device and its cables, which is a nice addition to the product that I wasn't aware of when I initially ordered it.As my very first Blu-Ray drive, I am very satisfied with this item as it is capable of doing exactly what it says it can. I picked it over some other more reputable brands due to its affordable pricing and 4k support (although you need to patch its firmware first). By connecting it to my MacBook Air M2 (using the provided single type C cable, without needing an adapter or dual port connection like the Buffalo drive) and using the makemkv software, this drive can play (or rather when using this said app, extract) pretty much any Blu ray disc available - be it a regular 1080p BR, UHD (4K) BR, discs from any region or copy protection, bootleg discs, and afaik, even those with cinavia protection -at least in theory, as I haven't tried that many yet. They're also compatible with DVDs and CDs as well, and supports burning to all of these disc types. Since the app only does ripping and not playing, it is a good idea to have some external storage drives to keep these media for ease of access in the future.Despite being rather loud when in use and can be slow (up to 30 minutes or more when ring ripping a blu ray), I believe this Blu ray drive more than justifies its price. I've seen players twice the price that doesn't support half of these features (usually lacks 4k support and is fixed to a certain playback region/ has cinavia due to licensing requirements, etc.).Would recommend this external Blu ray drive for those who doesn't have any device to play 4k Blu ray discs yet (although cheaper/better alternatives exist for non 4k drives). It's affordable, does everything, and seems durable. The only ceveat is that there might be a lot to learn when getting started, especially when it comes to patching the firmware for 4k support and using makemkv - although this issue isn't specific to this brand/model, it's a generic software limitation for all such drives. However, many tutorials are available online and they are trivial to work with once you are familiar with it.

This portal UHD drive can do more than just an UHD disc writer, if you know what you are doing. It comes with firmware 1.03 which can be rewritten to UHD backup friendly version to back up 4K movies. It doesn't come with UHD playback / burning software just be aware of this, other than that, this little gadget can become your best physical media friend for- Watch 4k/blu ray/dvd discs- buring/backup UHD/Blu-ray discs- Ripping UHD/Blu ray discs of your own with compatible software requiredIt also comes with extra USB-C to USB Macro-type B cable and protector case which are nice to save some bucks :)Last and not least, it's an external portal drive so no hassles when chaning over to a different PC or Mac.Overall, I recommend this drive.

These dont last. I have had two first one last a week second one about a year and now im shopping for a replacement. Worse thing is the failures have destroyed two 4k movies. When mine have failed they start scratching the surface off the disk and making unplayable in every other drive.DO NOT RECOMMEND. RUN A MILE.

I purchased this December 28th, 2020 - and it was supposed to get here in Canada by Jan 19th. However, it showed up on Dec 30th. VERY IMPRESSIVE Fast delivery. It comes well packed - everything was there as promised - and it had both standard USB and USB-C attachment cables. It even comes with its own carrying case that is lightly padded. The product itself seems well built and sturdy. Nice polished exterior.I plugged it in and it worked with my Dell laptop right away. I was able to read and play BlueRays and DVD discs right away. I have not tried burning anything at this point. When the DVD is first loading - it does run a little noisy - but not too bad.I would recommend the drive with no reservations at this point.I note that I am usually a little nervous ordering these sorts of things from Asia - due to quality and compatibility issues. However, I am very impressed with this product - and will definitely order from this company again.
