My EDC kit is now greatly enhanced. I tested this product, using dryer lint as well as little twigs and dried grass. What a blaze... and a long-lasting one, too! Now, I'm packing some (wrapped in ClingWrap) along with dryer lint into empty mint-tins, then wrapping the tins with Cling-Wrap, too!

Easy enough to use. Way easier than the hemp rope! Get a good fluff and it lights easily with a Ferro rod. Burn time is good, about 5 minutes from a dime sized ball. About like a fireplug. Honestly I can't say I have a winner between this and fire plugs. Both work about the same. I have tested the fire plugs more in windy conditions so I can't speak of how easy it is to light in that situation. But I assume about the same? I will say it is probably easier to stick this to something unlike the plugs so it won't fly away. I still haven't found the "magic" one yet. Easy to starts and burns a long time. WetFire tabs are pretty close though.......but expensive!

I ran across Pyro Putty recently when I started putting together a camping/emergency kit. It looked interesting, and I’d tried a lot of other tinned fire starter products and hadn’t been too pleased, so thought I’d give this a try. I really like this stuff, it doesn’t take too much for it to catch, but when it does it burns for a pretty decent time, long enough to let the fire catch whatever other material you put it with. And a little goes a long way. I’ve been using the blue/winter mix, so I can’t say what the other versions are like, but the winter version has a good consistency at midrange and colder temperatures. It leaves a little bit of an oily/waxy residue on your fingers when you grab out some from the tin, but that’s neither a complaint nor a surprise, just a mention. It smells nice too. (At the very least, I like it quite a bit.) Comes in a convenient little tin with a nice, secure, screw-on top, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it came packed to the brim. I’ve only had it for a little while, but so far I’m pretty pleased with it and am planning on trying out their other versions soon.

This is a great product. I took a 7 day trip to the boundary waters and it was a great addition to my pack. Instafire had been my go to product for fire starting, but I thought I would try a tin of this. I am glad I did. The location I had to make my fire was up off the ground and the instafire would fall to the ground and was not very effective. The pyroputty could be formed on the kenneling and attached to it. This was a great feature. I was able to start a fire with wet starting materials in a short time.PyroPutty is now my go to and will be in all my packs for my backcountry trips.Pros:It’s compactIt’s lightI can put a tin of it in my VSSLCons:None that I have discovered as of yet

After watching video of this stuff, I had to see if it was really that easy - it is!!Recently I have been putting together a ‘go bag’ and practicing some camping skills. One of the most difficult is starting a fire with ‘firesteel’. You know, those annoying ferro rods that look so easy on the package? I had been using dryer lint, which catches easily, but burns out quickly. I also have a magnesium brick to make shavings from, which works, but is a pain and requires tinder or something to actually make a useable flame. And of course all of the above has to be super dry...Enter the Pyro Putty! This stuff is incredibly easy to light with the steel striker and it burns long enough to catch small kindling. You can even light it while it’s floating on water! I tried the orange summer weather variety (they also have some blue stuff that stays supple in freezing temps). It has the consistency of real taffy, or like that of well chewed gum. Basically you get a large blueberry sized piece and pull it apart a couple times exposing the fibers. Stick that on a piece of kindling, a stick or whatever you going to use to base your campfire (I used a piece of birch bark). All it took was 1 spark to hit the fibers and voila, a nice sized flame that burned long enough for me to get my campfire going!! I transferred the burning putty p, in its birch bed, to the fire pit and pushed it under the pile of kindling. A few minutes later I was kicked back with a cold one watching the kids make s’mores. I haven’t used it as a trail marker yet, but it seems sticky enough to work for that. I’d also like to see if their ‘dual arc’ lighter works as well as claimed. This definitely earns its ‘required’ standing for the bug-out bag, and at the size of a dip can it definitely isn’t a size sacrifice. I will be buying more to have around for camping and fire pits and am happy I no longer have to dry a bunch of clothes before disaster strikes!!Full disclosure - In addition to a nice hand written and addressed thank you, I was asked to give a review in exchange for a small gift.

October 2019This is the second tin that I have bought of this putty. The first one, I used with my Boy Scout troop and on a campout with my grandkids this past weekend. It was cold and windy and we were wanting a small quick fire with which to warm up. The blue putty that I got was amazing! I had used it before with my troop and had ordered a can for my son who is an avid camper all over the country. The one for my son came while we were on our campout and I know that I will order it again. It is a wonderful product and makes starting a fire quick and easy.Thank you for producing a great and useful product! By the way, the customer service is awesome too!January 2021I thought that I had submitted this review, but found that I hadn’t, so I am adding to it.I have used PyroPutty several times while camping with my scouts, including rainy conditions. Several new leaders were totally impressed, so I got each of them a can for Christmas, to their delight. I stand by this product and appreciate its capabilities.
