I have had more corkscrews than I can remember. This one is by far the best! I love that the foil cutter is attached to it and really works.

I open a lot of wine bottles, well over 400 a year (no I don't drink *all* of them by myself). I have an electric opener (3rd one) a rabbit style with the opposing levers to grip the bottle (5th one) and have had and own countless angel and traditional (jack-knife style) corkscrews. I like the electrics, but they just don't last more than about a year. The other rabbit styles (using a plier like grip on the bottle) I've owned are wonky, eventually jam and/or need to be repaired, but even in use typically require more force than a simple angel opener. A well made angel style opener (good luck finding one) is nice but can still require a bit of finesse to remove the cork fully. While jack-knife style openers are traditional, very reliable and relatively easy to use, many folks are uncomfortable with them (they require practice to use well) and misuse can result in minor injury.THIS opener is awesome AND comes with the best foil cutter I've ever seen integrated in the opener (which means you aren't searching around for it). At first I was concerned that the device didn't come with a stand, but it rests upright just fine on its own. The action is smooth and requires little force. The design has you holding the neck of the bottle in your hand, not inches away on the end of a grip like the plier style "rabbit" as well as applying the force directly into remove the cork. This makes for a much better presentation when opening the wine in front of someone. Examination of the design and other reviews lead me to believe this opener will last a long time.I've been opening wine bottles using various devices (some not actually designed for the purpose) for over 40 years. This is my favorite opener ever.

I don’t like electric corkscrew openers. I actually like manual ones better. I am pretty sure that I have tried everything so was skeptical of this design. Well, it is a game changer. It is so easy to use on 750ml and 1500 ml bottles of wine.We go through 2 bottles of wine a day and this wine opener seems sturdy enough to last. There is a little learning curve so make sure you read the directions. You start with the lever fully up and place over the bottle after cutting the foil. Then just crank down and it pops the cork. You do have to do it one more time to release the cork but is no big deal. This is fast and easy and does not destroy the cork if you save corks for artwork.

I've had many different kinds of wine openers over the years.I won't use the kind which pry a cork out with either two long metal prongs on either side of the cork or with a metal leg that rests on the top rim of the bottle for leverage when prying--in both cases those kinds have chipped the glass bottle, leading me to dump the wine down the drain for fear of pieces of glass in the wine.I've had several of the two-arm type. They work fairly well but require a twisting motion which I find less and less comfortable the older I get. Some have eventually broken (usually the arm breaks) and all of them are a pain to get the cork off of.This opener is excellent. It requires little force to insert the corkscrew into the cork, extract the cork from the bottle and eject the cork from the opener when finished. In both cases, it involves a lever motion (either up or down), which is easier and less painful than a twisting motion. It's a nice feature that the foil cutter stores directly on the opener where it is easily removed and easily replaced. This is also the style of foil cutter I prefer by far (compared to, say, a dangerous, sharp knife edge which can easily slip off the bottle and add some additional red color to your wine). Unfortunately, this is the least effective cutter of this type I've ever used (even compared to dirt-cheap ones). Many times it simply dents the foil rather than cutting it. If I press *really* hard in just the right place, it shreds the foil into thin strips. I don't know whether the problem is the blade wheels aren't sharp enough, or whether the plastic body of the cutter which surrounds the blade wheels prevents them from cutting deep enough into the foil to cut through it. There are some bottles it works fine with and it seems to work with bottles which have a plastic wrap rather than a metal foil, but most of the time it is a time-consuming effort.I suppose I could just get another brand of foil cutter of that type, but I really like being able to store the cutter on the opener...

I have had a number of modern cork screws with varying degrees of success. I tried this one because it had good reviews and I like it. One secret is to make certain the lever goes up slightly the other side of centre as there is a slightly tight spot at the top. By going right over centre, it removes the cork successfully and with much less effort than the Rabbit type units. The foil cutter works well too.
