Otamatones are quite the thing, you either know what they are or you don't. I think they're pretty charming on the whole.Make no mistake these are very much instruments capable of producing real music, I recommend looking up Otamatones on your favorite video site to see what they are capable of.This is a larger than standard Otamatone, about 30-40% larger, it's quite big. It has the same audio as any other though, with three ranges you can select between, low, mid and high tones with the low sounding like an electric toy with a dying battery and the high sounding like an excited tween. You can modulate the sound by sliding your finger up and down its staff and by opening and closing the 'mouth' by squeezing its sides to get a wah wah wah sound out of it. It's very amusing. It runs on a set of AA batteries, which it includes, they're easy to install once you figure out the trick to the battery case, the cover comes out at a weird angle then folds down to allow a battery compartment to be fully removed and loaded. It also allows for an AC power connection though it warns that you need a very specific power output for it, so I suggest hunting down an official option if you want to use it.The volume range on this larger unit is quite high, it can get very loud compared to the smaller ones. For the parents, there's a headphone jack so you can let your kid play with it without driving you completely mad.On the model specific features, it includes the Hatsune Miku 'wig', a plush arrangement held to the head by an elastic band. It's a cute look for it but totally optional and can be removed for a more 'classic' appearance, which may be good for actually play. It also includes a strap you can hook to the top and bottom and wear it kind of like a saxophone.Overall, for a fan of Hatsune Miku, this is likely a great gift. The whole Vocaloid thing fits very well with an electronic voiced music note instrument. For those who AREN'T a fan, it is possibly still a great gift, though you may want to look into a more standard model without the wig and extras.

Gave this as a Christmas present to my sibling who a violin player that loves Hatsune Miku. (and also doesn't live with me anymore lol) By the end of the night he was able to play some basic songs on it and was eager to learn more. It's a little larger than I thought it would be, but that just makes it easier to play according to my brother. Great buy!My headline is a line from the box btw.
