My 15.5 ft canoe was too wide. While one side of the canoe was on the pads. The other side was on the edge would slide off and scratched the roof of my vehicle. If you have a short vehicle short roof. I don't recommend it.If you have a 12 ft canoe. Then yeah it would be good.

I’ve only use these to transport my paddleboard so far, so I can’t provide any feedback on hauling a 16 foot kayak. However, these seem sturdily constructed and they cover the entire width of my roof (Mazda CX-3). The foam seems dense enough but the kayak will be the true test

I bought this rack just to be able to return a queen mattress to Ikea on the hood of an Elantra sedan! In addition to holding the mattress well, the weight did not change the state of the foam at all, the rack did not move while I was driving (that is, the reported high grip really exists), the leather sewn into them is great and so are the buckle and strap. They are solid and of good quality.Of course I haven't loaded kayaks- yet- but as soon as I do, I'll update the review.

Work perfectly with two paddle boards on my CX5 or a kayak. Easy to install and take off

Je suis très contente du produit, facile à installer, pratique. La seule chose déplorable est que lorsqu'il pleut, l'eau entre dans la voiture par la ganse.

This worked great for me on a 300 mile trip, hauling my sit on top kayak to the beach! I would recommend adding a strap to the front and back of the kayak, which I did. Also the straps which attach to the pads and go around the kayak seem to work the best if you only run them thru the slots under the kayak, for me this was leaving one slot on either side open, this allowed me to tighten it onto the kayak more securely with less side to side play. The Straps front and back I feel were very key in making the whole thing more secure. Seemed to be well built and held up well on the 600 mile round trip, with no apparent wear. I was traveling highway speeds, 60-70 mph in a Chevy Silverado extended cab. Very little noise, but on the return when I wasn't as careful about twisting all the straps I did have a little more singing from the straps.. I would recommend to anyone looking for an affordable secure way to transport a Kayak I think it would work equally well for a canoe.

OMG I love this thing! Bought it to transport my new kayak on my old 1998 Mercedes C-280. No roof rack & it’s older so I don’t want to invest in a whole system (and anyway I don’t have enough $$). This made it possible for me to buy my kayak! Easy to put on the car & doesn’t seem to damage the door seals at all. Easy to get the kayak on & off - probably easier than on a rack, because i’m short and don’t have much strength lifting over my head. Easy to strap on the kayak & very secure once my friend showed me how to do it - doubling the straps over the boat and ratcheting REALLY TIGHT, tucking the loose ends in the car. Kinda got to dodge the straps a bit in the passenger side of the car if you are tall, they maybe brush my head slightly as the driver, not too bad. Had some vibration above 30 mph the first time but I adjusted the strap (twisted it a half turn) and it went away. I haven’t gone on highways yet but it was recommended to me to get hood & trunk tie-downs if I want to do that so we will see. I can make them for cheap. I honestly think this would be fine on the highway but want to be careful. Easy to tighten and loosen. Seems durable. I’m happy! Looking forward to trying it with my skis in the winter!

These are just the ticket if you need to take your inflatable SUP back home from the beach through town inflated so you can clean it properly. Thank you for complaints about lack of instructions.. I, at leisure on my living room floor, acquainted myself with it fully -- before the frustration of actually trying to get it on. Be sure to note carefully and with certainty which way the buckles thread. I forgive them for not giving more detailed instructions... these can be adapted to so many different cars. (BTW, some descriptions of these threading through windows is misleading) Thanks also for the warnings about the straps wearing out.. i will be sure to remove them right away after each use. Thanks everybody for the reviews. I do not think these are intended to replace heavy duty racks... they are great for for my light occasional use. I did not want to get "real racks"... so i am delighted

I needed a rack to get snowboard gear for four people to the mountains, and wasn't willing to buy an entire rack system for my car. After researching, I decided to try this option, super cheap and would arrive in time to install (I actually ordered a slightly more expensive option, but upon inspecting both there was not a discernable difference).First off, it does the job.Second, like many other reviews, this is not built to last long term.Third, like many other reviews, buy extra straps, ratchet straps, and/or bungee cords.Fourth, the locking mechanisms are not good on these. I would pull it super tight, barely move the strap and it would come loose. I tried everything to get them tighter. I finally attached a ratchet tie down, put the cable through and it was much tighter. Fair warning, it still will move on your roof, especially after driving on the freeway, there really isn't anything preventing it from moving, because the straps run through your door, so it can slide. The scariest part for me was securing everything to the racks, again the lock in mechanisms on the 2 straps that came in the package are not great. Had I only used the 2 straps, I have no idea what would have happened. I triple knotted them and my gear was not secure. I then added 2 additional straps and about 8 bungee cords. Obviously that is what I felt I needed for my load, a much smaller load may only require the 2 straps (good luck).Needless to say, 6 hours up the mountains and 6 hours down...no casualties, no damage, slight migration of the racks...my obsessive worrying and time spent loading and unloading was the only drawback.I definitely recommend this as a cheap option, but strongly recommend buying (or using) extra straps/bungees!4 stars only because of the hardware (I am also sure these straps will not last a long time, just my personal observation, but I was and am not expecting longevity. It did exactly what I needed, anything else is a bonus.

Installs or comes off in one minute!Doesn't scratch my 2016 vehicle roof.No wind noise like I had with my Yakima rack riding so high.I stacked 2 kayaks for a short trip, but that bottomed out the padding with about 135 pounds. With front and rear bungies, not included, I safely traveled 60mph. I haven't tested higher speeds yet.Love the idea of taking it off so easily, throw it in the trunk while kayaking for added security.A fraction of the price of metal roof kayak carriers and far superior for up to 100 pound single kayak, like a Hobie Revolution 16 or Adventure Island (hull and outriggers not stacked).Be careful not to overtighten the straps, or you could damage your vehicle.May not work with highly rounded roofs like my friend's 2012 Prius, or sunroofs.
