It can fit four individual skis, but not four pairs (which it claims it can do). Otherwise, it works pretty well.

Overall this rack is fantastic and will be carrying our snowboards to the mountain for years to come, allowing us to carpool and keep the inside of the car dry! We didn't want a SUV, and instead this hitch rack and a rooftop carrier. This hitch-mounted snowboard rack (we only tested with snowboards) has proven to be a reliable and efficient solution for transporting 4 boards for 4 people. The sturdy construction, made primarily of metal, ensures durability and stability, with the plastics being solidly made resin from the feel and look of it. The tilt feature offers convenient access to the vehicle's hatch, making loading and unloading a breeze, especially when accessing the hatch gate! While the design is slightly bulky for off-season storage as it doesn't fold flat enough, it offers a practical and space-saving solution compared to other options on the market. The rack can comfortably accommodate 4 snowboards, but with some adjustments, it can fit up to 6, but will require additional straps that will need to be sourced. The adjustable arms allow for flexibility in positioning the equipment, although there may be some challenges with aerodynamics when loading more than 4 boards, sometimes looking back at the rack while driving on the highway, there sometimes is a bit of movement due to the air movement on a hatchback. The tensioning bolts on the lock side provide adjustable tightness, ensuring secure transport so its overall very secure.A hitch tightener is essential for preventing sideways wobble, although it's unfortunate that it's not included but nothing that can't be found locally. The included locks offer a decent level of security, but additional measures, such as a bike security cable, can provide further peace of mind. We are looking for additional security measures without success yet.I am happy with this rack, its easy installation (but requires the manual), high-quality tools, and multiple locks for added security. The included keychain with a multitool was a convenient addition.Additional Observations after one long trip:It's important to cover the rack and locks during storms to prevent them from icing up or snow accumulation IF it has to remain on the hitch with bad weather.Ski Mounting Limitations can be an issue, since they're thinner, but for us, snowboards the rack's design is fine. This hitch-mounted snowboard rack is a solid choice for those seeking a reliable and affordable solution. Its sturdy construction, convenient features, and good value make it a worthwhile investment for groups of boarders!

I'll start with the good things, this rack would hold four snowboards easily and was simple to assemble. Unfortunately, the design is not good for skis for two reasons. First, the clamp at the top cannot close over a pair of skis stacked bottom to bottom. That means that it is absolutely untrue that this rack can store four pairs of skis on each side. It could maybe store four skis side by side, meaning two pairs of skis, even that I'm not sure. The other reason is that the bottom bars orient the skis pointing away from the top clamp, so when you clamp it down it bends your skis pretty significantly. I have no idea if this would be bad for the skis over time, but they are definitely not being held straight up and down without a lot of force, they are being cranked over the bar by 5 to 10 degrees. I could never put a friend's skis in here without feeling like I'm ruining their equipment. There are some other annoying things as well, like you cannot open the clamp without the key. Whenever you close it it is locked automatically so you have to have the key. This makes it difficult for a large group to load up their skis one at a time, they all need to have the key. Also, since the bottom part of the rack is just a set of fixed beams and not a clamp, the skis just fall downward whenever you open the top clamp, and if you want to reclamp it you have to try to pull all of the skis back up ay once so that the bindings are above the clamp or it wont close. This means practically that you have a very difficult time loading multiple skis and if you ever open the clamp you will have to redo everything, trying to pull four skis at the same time up high enough that you can reclamation it. First trip was Tulsa to Taos and this rack is awesome! 4 sets fit perfect and could add a 5th depending on size and your Tetris skills. Bought this because my Tahoe doesn’t have factory roof rails. The price is great for the quality.- tight fit in the hitch and it’s sturdy- skis fit snug and didn’t move the whole way- the locks and security fasteners are good enough for me to leave the skis on the rack at the hotel.- the whole thing folds flat against the back of my car so it doesn’t get hit while I’m skiing.I wasn’t sure about this but really glad I bought it!

Building quality looks decent but stuck to standard 2 inch hitch receiver. Instead of buying a grinder, I would rather return it.

I have used this rack a few times now, and have a lot of positive things to say, with a couple of mild negatives that I’m okay with overlooking. If I could give 4.5/5 stars, I would. For perspective, this is my first hitch rack. We previously used a luggage rack style carrier that (barely) fit 4 pair of skis on the roof of our minivan. We upsized to a large SUV, and reaching a roof rack isn’t realistic. The hitch-rack is our only realistic option. We have 5 kids, so only fitting 2 adults and 2 teenagers skis on the rack wasn’t ideal anyway. This rack will easily fit 6 pair of skis, and probably can fit 8 pair (as advertised) if you’re careful, and don’t have super wide skis. The rack is well-constructed, and easy to assemble. It’s not overly heavy for an adult, but it IS beefy to move around the garage.Loading skis works best tips down for me, and I make sure to load thinner skis first, so the thicker skis are further from our truck, and don’t need to be clamped as tightly. In general, it is easier to load skis further from your vehicle than closer, as the lower rack bars will flex more. READ THAT AGAIN BEFORE WORRYING THAT YOU WILL STRUGGLE TO CLOSE YOUR RACK 😂It is essential to loosen the tension screw latch before trying to close the top bar. Having a second set of hands is very helpful when loading multiple pairs of skis, but I have learned how to get by solo, if necessary. I use a bungee cord to gently hold the top bars closed while we load and unload. Light tension prevents the skis from slipping or falling.Closing the top bar takes some strength, but the secure hold on our thousands of dollars of skis is reassuring. The tips of your skis will flex approximately half an inch, which I was initially concerned about, but have no worries about after flexing my skis between moguls with my 200lbs body flexing them more like 3 inches…It’s not terribly convenient that you MUST use a key to unlatch the top bars to load or unload, BUT that also makes it impossible to accidentally leave the rack unlocked if you stop for gas, food, restrooms, etc while driving to your ski destination. Overall, I like this more than I dislike it, and I’m getting used to it. If security isn’t a major concern for you, just weather a key to your rack…I bent one of my keys because I failed to insert it all the way, and tried twisting anyway. I blame mittens, and a dark parking lot… customer service responded to my email within 12 hours, and mailed me a new key at no charge. I would advise leaving both keys in your vehicle so you always have a spare with you.Overall, 4.5/5. Would buy it again for the extremely reasonable price.

My first impression of this ski and snowboard rack is very positive—it feels solid, heavy, and well-built. It’s designed to fit a 2" hitch receiver, making it compatible with many vehicles, and it mounted smoothly on my SUV without any issues. Setup was simple, and I had it installed in no time. I appreciate the tiltable design, which allows easy access to my SUV’s trunk without needing to remove the entire rack. The rack can hold up to four pairs of skis or two snowboards on each side, making it perfect for family trips or outings with friends. It also has three functional positions: open, folded, and storage. The folded position is especially convenient for saving space and preventing accidental damage when the rack isn’t in use. I also like the extra safety straps with reflective materials add security, especially for night driving. Overall, the rack performs well on the road, keeping my gear secure, even on bumpy terrain.

Just be away, the package weighs a good 50lbs, so you may need a dolly or someone to help move it. The mount itself weighs approx. 40lbs.It arrives well-padded and organized in the box to prevent the pieces from bouncing around inside. The mount is in several pieces which allows a person to install on their own.The body is made of thick 4.7mm/0.18” steel tubing and the arms/mounts are 25.7mm/1” in diameter with 13mm/0.5” foam padding. The steel has an enamel/powder coated finish for corrosion resistance and should provide durability and definitely feels premium. The hitch fits a common 2” hitch opening, so it should work in a lot of vehicles. It comes with a hitch locking pin and keys for added security. The included instructions are very clear as it provides detailed photos/illustrations on how to install and use the mount. The pivot pin allows the mount to tilt approx. 45° for easy access as well as to get out of the way of your rear SUV hatch. The dense foam on the mounting arms clamp onto the boards/skis tightly without damaging the gear. The clamps can be locked to keep the gear safe. It also comes with a couple straps to loop around the boards and mount arm to ensure the boards/skis stay in place. The arms have a max length to support boards/skis up to approx. 2ft. and approx. 90lbs of weight per arm/side.Note: Just be mindful after install that it will add approx. 4ft of depth to your vehicle, so be careful when reversing and allow for the extra depth. It also has reflectors on the ends to provide added visibility for anyone behind you.Overall, the HyperAX Volt Ski rack works well. Made with heavy duty steel that provides a rigid and sturdy mount for your skis/snowboards that can be installed on your SUV/car or RV. The included locking mechanisms will ensure the mount and gear will stay safe and attached to your vehicle. At the time of this review, the rack was priced at $459.95.

The HYPERAX Volt SKI rack is a heavy-duty rack that can carry multiple pairs of skis and snowboards. Our family is all skiers, so my review is based on this from that perspective. I do think that this would work well for snowboarders as well, in fact, maybe even better. The ski rack uses a combination of methods to hold the skis in place. The bottom holder uses an offset set of arms that rely on spring loading to hold the skis in place (if using the driver side, you place the skis between the arms at about a 45-degree angle and then push them to vertical (the twist this causes in the arms holds the skis). Then you pinch the skis with the top arms (outside arm swings out, when you bring the skis up vertical, you press it against the inside arm and close the outside arm over the skis. This seems like a great deal of force on the skis, but they are designed to handle this and considerably more.I tried a pair of skis both in and out of a bag to see if the rack was impeded by the bag. The skis went into the rack just as well. This would protect them better while in transit but end up marring the finish on the skis due to slight movement when travelling over rough roads. It isn't ski season here yet, so I am not sure how they would travel in a bag.The part of the hitch that goes into the receiver has a built-in anti-rattle mechanism that I have not seen before. The locking pin is threaded, and screws in. The top of the bolt is wedge shaped (see photos) and as the bolt goes in it presses up a metal tooth against the top of the receiver. This does a good job of removing play in the rack. I did set this up in SUV mode. In that configuration, you only use one threaded bolt for the connection between the bar that goes into the receiver and the rest of the rack, and then a pin with a safety in the other hole to facilitate the tilt feature. Further "play" in the rack can be removed by using two bolts for the connection between the receiver bar and rack which disables the tilt feature (manual refers to this as RV mode). The rack is quite secure once attached to your vehicle. The threaded hitch pin would require a wrench to remove once installed, and there is a lock that slips onto then end of the hitch pin preventing removal if the pin is unscrewed. Skis/boards are secured in the rack by the top a lock built into the top 2 bars which are keys the same as the hitch pin.The only issue I have with this rack is when you are trying to secure more than one item per side. It can be a bit tricky to get everything into place before closing the top bar to clamp everything in place. Also, make ABSOLUTELY sure you are holding the handle of the top bar, and you are standing clear before unlocking this. The whole thing is under pressure when loaded, and if standing to the side and inside the reach of the outer bar, you could find yourself receiving a bit of a wakeup call.I do feel this will keep skis securely in place without causing them any damage. I will primarily use this on an SUV when ski season starts, and my son joins ski club. As parents we take turns driving. This will allow me to take a carload of kids and their equipment comfortably.

This rack is fantastic. It took an hour to install at night in the freezing cold, so I am sure it could be done quicker in ideal conditions. The tools included were high quality, I really like the keychain that comes with the keys as it has an included multitool. There are multiple locks (one on the hitch, and 2 others on the ski racks themselves) which gives me a sense of security as the rack can't be removed from your hitch and the skis can't be taken off the rack. I have a Volkswagen id.4 EV and needed a more aerodynamic ski carrier and this fit the bill. It forms a bit of a sharks fin that creates less drag than a traditional ski rack. The rack was sturdy and didn't shake during travel. We gave it a good workout on its maiden voyage with a 4 hour round trip in the freezing cold and snow. Make sure you cover the locks during a storm as they may ice up and need to be whacked to remove the ice. The only way skis fit is if they are mounted side by side, if they are mounted with the bottoms facing each other, the bindings are too thick for the racks to close. The rack will tilt down with the skis on board to allow for you to open your hatch. I am a little worried that you could lose the pin that controls this process as it's not attached to the rack itself.Overall this rack is fantastic and will be carrying our skis to the mountain for years to come.
