My only two complaints about an otherwise excellent product is that (1) everything requires to be screwed or unscrewed when using this rack, and (2) the locks are a little flimsy. When you are skiing, you do not want to be having to screw and unscrew every attachment (the rack itself, the arms for support, the clasps used to keep the skis apart, making it collapse for storage, etc.). It is tough to do with gloves on and I feel like there should be some quick releases. The locks are pretty flimsy but I am not planning to leave the skis unattended and it certainly is a deterrent for anyone at a rest stop to simply grab and go. Overall, a nice product.

I have a Jeep with a soft top and must use a hitch mounted ski rack system. I've looked at bike rack with the ski rack adder in the parking lots and talked to the owners. First off they look flimsy and most of the owners gave them only a 3 / 5 rating. After a web search I discovered the BUZZRACK BUZZSKI hitch system. I was skeptical and did a lot of research of the reviews, found that this may be the right system and ordered the BUZZRACK BUZZSKI. The 14 page on-line manual looked very intimidating and I expected to spend the next 2-3 hours putting together 200 pieces. However, it arrived mostly pre-assembled and after 15 min of easy to follow instructions (with pictures) I had it assembled.Once installed I fitted it with four (4) sets of skis and off we went- to the ski shop to get them tuned. An easy 30 min drive, round trip. Seemed study and we had no issues at all. Now, the real test- to the slopes and in the snow. It performed excellent and exceeded my expectations! We hit pot holes, stop and go traffic, 70 mph, snow and wind- all without any issues at all. What could be better. Only two items IMO- the tilt function is cumbersome with having to unscrew and re-screw it and secondly, the locking mechanism needed to be re-locked to take the key out. Both minor details, but two items that could be made more user friendly. In conclusion- this is a great hitch mounted ski rack (4.9 out of 5) and I highly recommend it.

I have multiple suv's that I take to get me to the slopes. So I was looking for a hitch based rack for the skis for our family. Most all attach to a bike rack and they are not very solid or stable handling more that a pair of skis or two. I have a family of 6 and needed something solid. I took a chance and have been highly impressed. I like the strength and functionality. Getting the skis on and off is a breeze. You have to screw the pin in place to have it swivel up and down which only takes a minute. My only complaint is that the pin that holds the hitch into the hitch mount also requires you to screw it in as well. Instead of the normal solid bolt with a clip that slides through the hole. That is a minimal complaint. I have used it a dozen times so far and it is holding up very well.

Our trusted all-wheel drive minivan gave up the ghost so we were left to try to find a way to transport 4 skiers (3 female) with all our gear in/on our Subaru Outback. I went with a basket for the roof for the extra gear (which eliminated my roof-mounted ski rack). I was not willing to use our bike rack as the mount for a ski carrier after reading the reviews. The Buzzrack is a very acceptable alternative to the roof-mounted rack. Pros= very sturdy, skis sit tight and no reaching/climbing on the car to reach skis (no more rubbing against a dirty car to skis). Cons-skis will get road splash if bad weather. Minor inconvenience is that the mechanism to fold the rack away from the car is a screw-in bolt. I didn’t find it as annoying as some some reviewers, but with snow around the bottom of the rack it was a little annoying. One other “quirk” is that you have to put the key into the locked position to get it out once you have the one bar of the rack open in order to unlock the other bar. Not a big deal.I guess the best way to sum this up would be that I probably will be using this rack, instead of the roof rack, even when just going on day trips.

This rack turned out to be just what I was looking for. Different racks exist for people with different needs and preferences. If you feel a roof rack would work better for you, it probably would. I have always been interested in a hitch mounted rack because it's easy to access, easy to mount for my ski trips and remove for the rest of the time, it stays out of the wind so there is no noise and no loss in fuel mileage and seems to catch less road grime too. On top of all that, I think it looks unique and just plain cool. It catches a lot of looks and interested questions from fellow skiiers as well. The cons are that it obstructs your view out the back window and hinders your access through the tailgate. It does not prevent access, but there's an extra step involved (about 30 seconds to unscrew the hinge and rock the hitch rearward.) This did not bother me as my car has a backup camera and I packed accordingly, putting the things I access most in the back seat. The hitch is very sturdy and well made. It is not cheap, flimsy or at all questionable in it's longevity. It was very easy to assemble, much easier than I anticipated. You'll be up and running within 30 minutes and it includes everything you need to safely and securely transport your skis or boards. I traveled about 600 miles round trip with two snowboards (in bags) and two sets of skis (in bags). The bags make for a tight fit, but still doable, and they protect from road grime.I only docked one star because the rack uses an adapter for mounting to a 2" receiver hitch and it could be tighter. It allows a little bit of wobble, but nothing that concerned me, just something to improve upon.Highly recommended and a great value.
