Doesn't grip very well, have to play with it to grip, may try some tool dip to get better traction. I have a 40-year-old filter wrench somewhat similar, works very well, but it is too large for oil filters that are in tight places. For the price I don't mind experimenting.

Make sure you read the directions on how to use them. These are built very well. They are sturdy and won't wear out or break. I like that they come with 2, one for small filters and one for larger ones. They fit about 9/10 filters you find. They are easy to use.

I have had all sorts of oil filter removers over the years including metal and rubber straps, the caps that go on the end of the filter, pliers and at times a long screwdriver and big hammer. None of them worked perfect and I assumed that is as good as it gets. Then I saw these. I have other Orion Motor Tech tools and they are all top notch so it was a no brainer to try them. Well my search for a filter wrench that will work on anything and get the filter off every time is over. It comes in a set of two sizes to fit large and small filters. Not only does it tighten down the harder you turn but you can use an open end or box end wrench to come straight off the side or you can use a ratchet, extensions and universal joints to get it from the end . So far I haven't found anything I can use it on and it has worked wonderful. Get it now and use it forever.

I have not had a chance to use the smaller one but I've used the bigger one 3 times for an oil change on 3 seperate vehicles and it grips great. Even the filter on my Mom's minivan my Brother put on last time with his he-man strength was no match. And in the tight area of my car it it did a great job getting up in the engine and grabbing the filter and loosening it. They are exceptionally well made and feel super stout. I have no doubt these filter grippers(wrenches, whatever) are going to stand the test of time. I don't think the listing price is that bad either, but I would probably buy just the bigger size by itself for both my, and my partners vehicle instead of them both and save some money. Good stuff.

OMT usually ranks high in my books for quality tools at a good price but these fell below my expectations. I especially had issues with the smaller tool. The arms were very tight in place and I had to disassemble them to get them to work. I also had to grind down one of the jaws because it would not open easily. They had to be forced open. The arms rotate to be able to tighten but realistically you should only use these to loosen. My other concern with these were how bulky the jaws are. Not the end of the world but there are slimmer and lighter options.TLDR - A good quality tool, just needs some refinement

Hey, let me tell you about something that's become my go-to in the garage - the Orion Motor Tech Oil Filter Adjustable Oil Filter Wrenches. I used to have this awesome wrench from the late 90s for removing oil filters, but it disappeared on me, and I couldn't find anything like it again. That was until these Orion filter wrenches showed up in my product feed, and I knew I had to get them.If you've never used one of these, here's the deal: you just slide the jaws of the wrench apart, slip it over your oil filter, and then insert a 3/8 drive socket wrench into the base. When you start loosening the filter, the jaws clamp down securely, so you get this no-slip removal that's just perfect. My only gripe with my old tool was that it didn't fit larger oil filters, but Orion thought of that - they include a larger size that's ideal for those big truck and van filter bodies. It's really a no-brainer for anyone with a garage - go out and get yourself a set. You'll thank me later.
