Little strange to use at first but yeah it holds tight on the oil filter and is easy to remove.

I like this tool very much. It is well-built and well-designed. I own 7 motorcycles and as you can imagine, that means different-sized oil filters. When you set the tool up PROPERLY - get it on the filter first, then put your socket adapter on it (1/2 inch, so the big one) and then a good, solid socket - the tighter the filter is, the harder the tool grips as you try to unscrew the filter. Unless some knuckle-dragger put the filter on too tight (with a wrench, probably), or the filter itself is just too rounded or deformed, this tool should get the filter off without destroying it.

Actually works pretty good. Just make sure you get the right size for your filter. Measure the filter, don't guess. Ask me how I know.

Ive bought all kinds of oil filter wrench sets, strap wrenches, oem filter tools, and other oil filter removal gizmos over the years. I found this recommended on an old school forum when I was working on a particularly stuck filter and it is the real deal. There are soooo many of these you may think they're all the same, but they are not. This is the filter wrench to solve your headache. Heavy duty machined steel, no plastic, no thin metal edges, this guy is the real deal.

Whoever assembled this tool has never removed an oil filter obviously! The way it's made it can only tighten a filter, not remove it! when you try to turn counter clockwise it opens up and does not grip filter. I was able to dissassemble the tool and configure it to work the correct way. It worked but I will be tossing it in the garbage and getting one that fits the filter without having to screw around.

Different problem: My problem was not an oil filter but the light in the back of my Viking oven. It has a screw-on glass cover that is hard to reach and after 30 years of oven use, it got stuck too tight to loosen by hand. This tool, with multiple extensions on a hand rachet wrench, was just the right tool to loosen the glass cover. My local appliance repair people were going to charge me over $100 to replace the assembly. What I wish: I (thought I) had to hold the jaws of this tool open while I placed it on the class cover. After I had successfully gotten the job done, I discovered that if I had just turned the wrench clockwise to start with, it would have locked open until I got it in place, then turning the wrench counterclockwise, the jaws would close and do the deed. I wish that little suggestion had been included. And maybe a 3/8" to 1/2" adapter for the socket wrench.I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it now. It looks like it's very well made and should last a lifetime of use. But I don't think I'll need to replace that particular light bulb in what's left of my lifetime. It was still a lot cheaper than my appliance people.

This was the third and final tool I needed to remove the oil filter on my Bonneville. Typical socket type didn't work, just slipped off. The three finger universal wrench didn't bite. This tool was super easy to use and grabbed ahold of the filter on the first try. I used a breaker bar, and because of the excellent design I was able to reset the wrench for a new bite without having to remove it from the filter - when you go clockwise the wrench releases, and as soon as you start going counterclockwise, it bites into a new section. This was the perfect tool to remove a dealer installed filter that the mechanic overtightened and may have forgotten to oil the gasket first. No regrets!

Worked as expected. The cam system is interesting. It took me a couple of turns of the ratchet to figure it out. It grips the filter without falling off, but make sure to turn the socket in the removal direction before clamping it onto the filter.I was surprised at how heavy and bulky this thing is. My oil filter was surrounded by a few components that barely cleared the filter wrench. Actually, the wrench ended up scraping against a bracket. Also, the item is made overseas (not USA, not Japan, not Taiwan, not Germany, not even Mexico). If I buy another filter wrench, I am going to try the one I did not choose which is made in Taiwan. It is a different design, and it is thinner and lighter.Anyway, it worked this one time and performed as expected. Will I buy again? No. Will I buy this style of filter wrench again? No.
