Problems may not be the chime

A doorbell system consists of 4 parts – A doorbell chime, a push button, a transformer, and the wiring, which are connected all together (see the wiring diagrams below).

If there is an issue with the chime, the chime may or may not be the issue. See below under “Troubleshooting” for common issues and troubleshooting tips.

My old doorbell stopped working and I got tired of changing the battery on my ring doorbell. I changed the chime and transformer and now I'm back in business. I prefer the old two note mechanical chimes than the electronic modern chimes. Noise level is great and it looks nice in my hallway.

Nice sound, but it started to fail after about 11 months, and after 13 months the chime stopped working and just buzzes. When I opened the cover a black rivet from the innards fell right out. :(We did enjoy it before it broke.

This was a drop in replacement for my old chime. Although this chime was replacing an old chime with a wooden cover, it has a modern look.I purchased a home where apparently the previous owner installed a ring door bell. I never had a ring door bell, but when I started setting up the app, I discovered that the previous installation never used the old doorbell wiring and that the previous owner was just using the ring on wifi and not hardwired so that the battery was not being continuously charged.I thought perhaps he did this because the original doorbell wiring was shorted out or disconnected even though the old doorbells were still attached to the house. When I found the old doorbell transformer in the basement by the breaker box and that it was still giving off 17v, I decided that I should try to reconnect the old door bell system to see if I could get the Ring door bell to work with it and so that it could both charge the ring door bell and be able to ring a physical chime. The old chime was thrown out during renovation because I didn't believed it worked as the previous owner never used it, so I purchased this simple Newhouse Hardware CHM1 Door Bell Chime as a replacement. It was very simple to install and just needed to connect the correct wiring from the front and back door. To my surprise once I hooked it up and did a test ring from the front door, it rang. I was even more surprised when the back doorbell worked as well. The best surprise was when I then connected the front wiring to the Ring doorbell and again it worked, and it was charging the Ring doorbell battery. I was so pleased that everything worked. So even if there is no wifi in the house, the physical chime will still ring with the Ring door bell. It also has a modern look so it goes well with the renovation.

My old-school front doorbell went kaput, so upgraded to the Blink video doorbell which was on discount from Lowe’s Hardware. I didn’t know that it could trigger the old-school low-tech chime box, but it does. My old chime box was the problem, so ordered this one new. Took about 15 minutes to install this one and it works great with the new Blink doorbell. So now I have the functionality of the Old Way (which my corgi appreciates) along with the smart phone video connection. I already had some Blink cameras, so this was easy to add to the home system. All good!

It is nothing fancy. It is easy to wire together and screw on the drywall. It does what it is suppose to do, make a "ding-dong" sound. I took apart the old chime that worked for 8-9 years and remembered which wire goes to which terminal. This one has worked for 4 plus years, and it is an used item sold by Amazon. Nothing more and nothing less. A low cost chime.

My first doorbell was a Nutone. A few months ago, it started buzzing instead of ringing. I ordered this Newhouse Hardware kit. While installing it, I found that the transformer wire had been installed on the rear switch terminal, which prematurely damaged the chime. I installed this chime and the 2 switches correctly and my doorbell works perfectly! This kit comes with a new transformer, but I didn't need to crawl through the attic to find the location. The instructions for the chime and switches were super easy to follow. This chime is a little smaller, so I had to adjust its position and make new screw holes. The original holes are visible, but a little filler and touch-up paint will solve that. I especially love that my front door switch now illuminates, I didn't have that before!!

Very nice doorbell and transformer and a reasonable price. Easy to setup and works perfectly with Ring Wired Doorbell Pro. Nothing fancy about it, but it rings and works with my Ring Doorbell. Will recommend.

Works with Google nest doorbell in India. Just install a transformer to convert 220V AC to 18V AC. Then connect this doorbell to the transformer output with Google nest doorbell. Price is expensive since it needs to be imported from USA. But there is no other choice.

Singapore HDB.Work with my August smart doorbell cam pro.Required to use a 240vac to 24vac adaptor and cable according to doorbell diagrams. The doorbell works after the bell has been energized. The sound generated by the bell is rather okay for a 4 room HDB. But in US, having 2 floor house might be slight on the soft side. Overall I did has Google home announcement to compliment the doorbell.found my adapter on element14 website in Singapore
