We got this scientific microscope to give as a gift for a child’s birthday. I was blown away by the packaging. It was really well done. I decided to open everything up and run the microscope through a few tests to make sure it works well. The bottom light didn’t work for the longest time. I finally discovered that the batteries were installed upside down by the manufacturer and the on/off switch is backwards (turn it off to actually turn it on). Once we got through that the light was very bright and worked well. I was really excited to see that it comes with pre made slides (such as onion skin and pollen, etc.) I was able to get a close up look at the onion skin. But getting the slide in focus was a bit difficult and definitely not as good as an actual scientific microscope (which we have used and our review is based on a comparison between one for kids and a real one in a lab/school). My other issue came with the fact that the overhead light does not work at all. It might be a case of the batteries are dead (I don’t have that kind to replace at the time of this review). I tried messing with the light and batteries quite a bit since that worked with the lower light but it did not work. Hopefully it is just a battery problem. I think for a kid this is amazing as they will probably be looking at slightly bigger things than cell layers in an onion skin (still very surprised at the fact they have slides made up already). And focusing on larger stuff might be a bit easier. It is still plastic even though it looks metal. It comes with so many accessories though which is really nice. I think the child will really enjoy this gift, though I do imagine it will need to be used with an adult to help with focusing until the child is a bit older. I am pleasantly surprised but would have liked all the parts to work the first time.

This has everything you need so if you need to give a microscope for a gift, this is the one to give. The box is perfect, shows the item, describes it, shows you what you can do with it. It is solid and sturdy on the table. It was easy to switch the slides in and out. The view is crystal clear. The magnification is very powerful, you can see the cells of trees easily. Very happy with it and recommend it to anyone that needs a microscope or anyone who wants to give one for a gift.
