I purchased this microscope to inspect costly Iridium spark plugs. The "fakes" have become such good copies that a microscope like this is needed to tell the difference. The naked eye...even with a magnifying glass...is no longer enough.

I am really into collecting crystals and wanted to have a closet look. I didn't want anything expensive or high tech, just basic. I came across this and saw it has decent reviews and was so INEXPENSIVE I figured I had nothing to lose!I'm so glad I got this, it arrived the next day and was ready to go! I couldn't stop looking at everything! I immediately ended up ordering some for friends. It's tiny, cheap and fun, highly recommend for inspecting things closer or to just explore!

Literally cannot believe this thing was so cheap. I bought one for my eight y/o for Christmas. Had to order another one for myself because I can’t stop playing with it 😆. Some reviews on Reddit mentioned the green model was the right magnification level to show cool images without overly fussy focusing for kids. But I just ordered the higher magnification one with the smartphone clip to experiment. Currently I’m just holding my phone camera up to the lens, so I’m excited to get the phone clip. I rarely leave reviews but had to report our extremely positive experience with this. And at the price point, it’s easy to replace if anything happens to it.

I purchased this for my 5-year-old grandson who is very curious. He LOVED it. It is very simple to use. Has amazing magnification, given the price and size of the telescope. It is made of plastic, so be aware to use it gently.

I bought this for my 5 year old grandson as a Christmas gift and mhad it delivered to him…. on a visit to see him in February, I got a chance to see it for myself and demonstrate its use and operation to my grandson. I used an onion skin and leaf to demonstrate it. I found it was easy to use both for me and him, and was surprised at the quality and resolution of the image. My grandson saw the image and was truly amazed at what he saw, and once I showed him how to use it, he could then use it by himself. The controls and light worked well and were simple to use. I was impressed with the usability and price point of this small microscope. Perfect for a budding science student, no matter what age they are!

Easy to use and great magnification for kids, but the battery light went out literally within seconds of unpackaging it. Perhaps it was stored in the warehouse in poor battery conditions? Our child was disappointed it couldn't be used - we had to find and replace the batteries (not an easy type to find), but then it worked fine. Just unhappy to gift it with a non-working light. Wish I could get a partial refund for the immediate battery replacement.

I bought both this product, and the higher magnification sibling, . Both are inexpensive, and overall, I'm happy with them. I liked the lower powered one better because it comes with base that has a glass slide holder. The image quality is surprisingly good for the price. It is easy to use, however, I would have preferred if the control for magnification and focus were switched, i.e., have the focus with a twisting dial at the bottom and a lever to change the magnification, like in the higher magnification model (60-100x). I also prefer the other model's light, which stays on until you click the button, and the AA battery. However, although it may sound like I like the other model better than this, I actually like the 20-40x model better because of the removable base and it being more useful to look at a wide range of objects.I am a researcher and have access to research-grade microscopes. This inexpensive microscope does not replace a research microscope. However, it is a great entry microscope that may be useful, say, for a field trip in a college-level class, like my Invertebrate Zoology or Parasitology classes. I may order a bunch of this scopes for my classes to take to the beach or field.A few things could be better: as mentioned above, the focus could be better if it were on a twisting dial and the battery could stay on, and with a larger battery (e.g., AA). It would also be useful if it could capture the image (but adding a camera it would increase considerably the cost); alternatively, it would be more useful if it could be attached to a cell phone camera, since cell phones are ubiquitous and take great photos. And a small detail: the scope could have a ring or loop so that it could be wore on a chain or lanyard like a jeweler's loupe (the 60-100x model has it).As others have suggested, it would be a great gift to a child who may be interested in sciences. And being so inexpensive, it is a low risk investment. This scope is much easier to use and has better image quality that other simple microscopes that I have seen. I highly recommend it.

Works well enough for a child who is exploring the world around them. Is it high quality, no. Does it work, yes. For the price you are not getting a professional piece of equipment. That said it does work well. My niece is a budding scientist who loves exploring nature. She " has been waiting her whole life for this". I tried it out and the view is very clear not tack sharp but better then I expected. It holds slides and has a removable base to use on large samples like rocks. The LED light is bright enough to be useful and as she pointed out can be used as a flashlight. The batteries it cam with did not last very long but a new set has lasted for a couple of months. The build quality is kind of cheap but sturdy so it can take a beating. About the only real down side is no way to interface a camera. So you can't put your cell phone up to the eyepiece and take photos. If you have budding scientist, are an elementary school teacher, or just like to see the world a little closer, you can't beat the deal.

I bought this for my 4.75 year old son as a stocking stuffer. Upon its arrival I broke it out of the packing to test drive it and figure out if this would be good enough to get him into microscopes, or crappy enough to discourage him.It turns out it's far better than I expected. I can't stop playing with it. The optics are very clear for such a cheap instrument, it's simple but accurate to adjust, the LED distributes light evenly and not too harshly, you can use slides or just stick it on cool looking stuff. It's a breeze to play with.I'd recommend these for just about anyone who wants to take a closer look at stuff. I had a good time inspecting tool edges for example, then collectors of small flat items like stamps or coins might like this as well. For kids though, this is absolutely awesome. After an hour they could operate it, give or take a few pointers from mom or dad, and from that point on it's just a really rad thing to have on hand for when a kid gets curious. If you want your kid to get into the tiny world, this is an excellent introduction.
