As woodworkers, we all know the lock miter joint requires an exact cut on two pieces of wood to create a perfect 90-degree angle in order to make a strong and seamless lock miter joint. While I have researched dozens of Internet videos on the subject, as a woodworking enthusiast, I must say MicroJig® has skillfully designed their FN12 FitFinder™ measurement tool and the Center Finding Platform feature on their lock miter router bit to overcome the tedious process that is involved in order to properly set up a lock miter router bit. The MicroJig® measurement tool works every time in accurately determining the proper height of the center point of the MicroJig® router bit in relation to the project wood. This jig is based on a time-tested mathematical principle and best of all, it does it automatically without any mathematical calculations! This measuring tool can also be used for other types of woodworking projects and setups too! The other half to this woodworking lock miter bit setup is using MicroJig’s® proprietary Center Finding Platform lock miter router bit. This router bit was specially designed to be just slightly taller, and it also identifies the center profile cut of the bit with a built-in permanent level platform. This router bit can accommodate project wood ranging in size from 1/2" (13mm) through 3/4" (19mm) in thickness. This MicroJig® router bit also has a unique feature of automatically cutting a small and necessary “glue well” into both pieces of wood. As a result, it allows the wood glue to stay in place without having it trying to squeeze out and more importantly, it will not hold the lock miter joint open because of the excess glue within the wood joint.
