I've used 2 of these bits to make a picture frame and a big test rectangle. First times using this type of bit and I will use this most every time in the future. They cut well and left a smooth surface behind. As for the quality, I'd say they are good. Setup is a bit of trial and error, both in the height adjustment and what bit to use for what thickness wood but once you figure that out it's smooth routing from there.

When I received this item the bits had all come out of their places inside the package and had traveled who knows how far loose being shaken up against each other. As a result there are chips in the carbide on all the bits basically making them unusable. Bummer.

I've been looking forward to receiving this set of lock miter router bits for an upcoming project. To get ready for the project I ordered some expensive hardwood boards and I had plans to incorporate lock miter joints into the design to give it a very clean, streamlined look. Well you can imagine my surprise and disappointment when I opened the box to find these bits all jumbled up inside a case that looked like it had been placed in paint shaker for hours. The bits have chipped blades and the case was chewed to pieces. I'm not about to risk the hardwood I purchased on damaged router bits. I don't know how well the bits could have performed and it's a shame. All it would have taken was a few pennies worth of Styrofoam in the case and the bits would have been held securely in place and this story would have had a completely different ending.

These locking miter joint bits are real nice. I got the 1/2” shank ones which is what you want for this type of joint. I had a set of 1/4” shank ones that worked ok but these 1/2” ones are way better for routing these joints. They just seem to spin truer and have less deflection with the beefier shaft. These bits showed up in a plastic case that has holes for the shafts and they were all scattered about from shipping. They seemed okay and I can’t find any signs of damage so it was no big deal but it’s still not the first thing you want to see when opening a new product. The cutting edges look good and they are sharp. The painted part looks good as well but that’s not important for the operation of the bit. They all spin true with no detectable runout. Most importantly, they cut this locking miter joint well.I have noticed a lot of people complaining that they did not receive instructions with the bit. I have been using routers and bits for forty years and I can’t recall ever seeing instructions included with a router bit. Usually when buying a specialty bit such as this you already have a need for it and hopefully have researched the process. That’s what I do anyway. Between YouTube and being able to call other like minded people I can usually have a handle on the operation fairly quickly. The set up on these bits is a PITA the first time for sure though. Get some solid soft wood stock that is 1/2, 5/8, or 3/4 thick. Plywood is a poor choice for creating this joint. You could use MDF in a pinch but some nice FLAT with all edges squared softwood such as spruce, cedar, popular or even pine would be fine. Set the bit as close as you can eyeball it of use a straightedge and run it. You want that top edge just barely leaving a flat spot of the original edge. Now that you have that piece, mark it as being your set up block forever more for that cut. Go ahead and run a couple of more just to check for consistency. That takes care of the flat run. Now for the vertical run you want to use a feather board and back it with a push piece, running vertical cuts on a router table for the first time is scary business but as long as some precautions are taken it will be fine. Run that first vertical cut without moving the bit and try it against your set up block. It’s not going to fit perfect on the first pass but will give you an idea of how far to drop it. Drop the bit a little bit and try it again. Keep repeating until you get a perfect miter. Then mark that piece as your set up block to keep forever and ever. Congrats! You have succeeded in making the perfect locking miter joint and have set up blocks to use to set it up for the next time you want to use these bits. Note, the blocks you made are only good for that particular thickness, ie: the 3/4” thick blocks are only good for the 3/4” bit and stock. You will have to make new set up blocks for the 5/8” and 1/2” bits. So you will have a total of 6 setup blocks 3 marked flat and 3 marked vertical. By using these blocks in the future you can set the height and fence in a jiffy since you have already done all the work when you made your blocks. Anytime you reinstall the bits and use the set ups you just made make sure to check for needed micro adjustments on some scrap before feeding that piece that matters. If I have you throughly confused by now remember that YouTube is your friend on things like this.I would say that getting 3 sized bits for under thirty five bucks makes these bits a really good deal. They should last for a long time as long as they are not used constantly all day in a production environment. Just keep them from overheating and they will treat you well. Nice set of bits for sure.

Can't say anything bad about the bits, but the packaging could be better. The bits come in a plastic box where each bit slides into a hole in the box bottom. The problem is they can also slide out as nothing retails them. When I received these bits they were all rattling around in the plastic box. A bit of paint was chipped, but the bits are fine. However, these heavy bits could easily damage each other during shipping.Once you dial in the setup for these router bits you need to make a setup block. Just cut as small piece of wood with a bit and mark it for use with the bit. The setup block can then be used to quickly setup the bit when used next.

The bits cut through hardwood very cleanly which is the most important thing for a router bit. The bits are really high quality but the packaging doesn't make any sense. All three bits had come out of the holes and were banging there blades together in shipping, every other router bit I have ever bought protected their blades. Also there is no little paper or brochure on the setup, I had to come back to the amazon order to see the setup instructions, What if it was a gift? There is a small card with a customer rep email but no one wants to email someone for instructions. A little plastic setup guide piece would be ideal but included instructions and bit protection for shipping are a minimum. 5 star bits with 2 star delivery.
