Top !

I love this pad! I keep two of them on hand. I find the size very useful. It is nice for a full painting, and can also be cut in half for 2 5x7 paintings. paper holds water well, dries as expected, takes color well, retains brightness of color when it dries.I would recommend this paper to any beginner or novice as well as to hobby painters. Good enough for professional practice work if you do not want to be using your more expensive Arches.

This is my 1st venture into 100% cotton watercolor paper (watercolor newbie here—and I’ve been using student-grade paper), so I can only go by my expectation. The texture is great, and I love the block so I don’t have to tape it down. The only thing I was a little disappointed with is that it dries too quickly (possibly a more expensive paper would stay wet longer, but the cost is prohibitive). It doesn’t provide much time to keep certain edges from becoming hard instead of blending. Other than that, I am enjoying using it; I just need to be quick and have my palette ready to go.

This is 100 % cotton paper and works great. It is the same as Bao Hong paper. It has a nice texture, absorbs water and watercolor paint is easy to lift off as well. It is also very reasonably priced. I have only used the cold press but would not hesitate to buy the hot press or rough.

I hate it took me so long to try the meeden cold press. It's divine and very affordable in my opinion especially considering it's 100% cotton. Im no pro but I paint as often as any pro honestly. I'm obsessed with everything watercolor but especially paper. I don't think there is a brand I haven't tried. I actually thought I found the best in the Winsor and Newton paper. I know arches is the standard and it's great but I really like a WHITE paper. Arches and Saunders are identical to me. Same feel and look. Great paper but not as smooth as like and definitely not as white. Hahnemhle (sp) is really nice but almost too smooth (I know..I'm picky). The New York Central is fantastic and about neck and neck with the Winsor and Newton for being white and a smoother cold press without being..well..hot press. I have the Meeden Hot Press and really like it but I still gravitate towards cold press. I decided to try Meeden yesterday on a whim (just so I knew I tried them all) and just finished painting on it and THIS IS THE ONE ...COLD PRESS ..smooth but not too smooth..THICK, ABSORBS, it's still got tooth...it's TRUE WHITE like the WN, NYC but this is where it rises to the top...$$$$...The price is right. Best price, best finish, Fast shipping, Beautiful finish, Great price.. Im forever faithful. If you need more texture you can use the rough grain so I can't imagine this not being preferred by most. Thank you!!

Honestly such good quality paper. Coming from a range of very entry level watercolour books with no cotton content, this was AMAZING. What a difference. Expensive, but worth it for special projects ❤️

This paper is a part of my study of readily available high-end cotton papers. Of course we compare everything to Arches, and I have had lots of experience with that, Fabriano and New York Central, as well as some other cotton papers that I'd rather not mention. My biggest issue with Meeden is it peels with rough treatment perhaps a tad faster than Arches of Fabriano. (layer 7 instead of layer 8). Lifts nicely, layers nicely. Zero issues with any blend or lift. Stays wet a tad longer than normal. When I first looked at it, the paper appeared less soft to the touch and look than any of the previously mentioned papers, but it didn't paint hard, so no issue there. At half the price of Arches, it paints just fine, and the results are smooth and excellent. I will buy more of this, and not for practice paper, either.

Great heavy paper that holds up to lifting water color when needing to. A block is great for keeping the paper from warping while painting. A little difficult to release it from the block without damaging the paper, though I’m new to using a block so I’m sure with practice I’ll get it!

MEEDEN 100% COTTON WATERCOLOR BLOCK: ROUGH TEXTURE:**The block arrived in excellent condition. Sealed in plastic wrap, w/ a paper barrier over the watercolor block helps to avoid scratches, providing an added layer of protection. It is easily removed with a palette knife, butter knife, or whatever means you use to seperate from a paper block. **The block itself has thick, sturdy backing, making it safe and easy to use/prop on most any surface. **The texture is lovely! More "rough" than any other "academic" cotton Cold or Rough, and I've tried most of them. **The fibers woven tightly, more than any (aside from Baohang) I’ve used before. If comparing to professional rough texture, it isn’t what I would consider “rough” to be. **Slightly Off-white color. Holds up well to scrubbing. **After the paint has dried/set, the bright colors are rich and bold. The lighter colors are soft and delicate, not dull. ** Watercolor paper is an artist's personal preference. The fun is getting to know it! **SUMMARY: I'm a satisfied customer! This MEEDEN Rough Texture Watercolor Block is on par with Baohang Academy, but doesn’t quite meet professional standards. **Water and paint DEFINITELY behave differently than usual with this paper. It takes practice, but it's worth the effort! **My opinion: Ideal for cards, gifts, etc., but not selling a final piece. **REMOVE THE SHEET CAREFULLY!! It tears quickly and easily! **ACADEMIC LEVEL: 4.5 STARS. AND 4 STARS FOR ARTISTS. **(I prefer it to Arches, my least favorite "professional" paper.) **THE "FLOWER EXAMPLES" WERE COMPLETED IN ONE SITTING: #1: WET-ON-DRY, WATERCOLOR & GOUACHE, ROUND BRUSH: The first layer went well, but the second layer caused the center of the paper to raise from the block, causing an unwanted cauliflower effect, immediately ruining a petal of the flower. The result is obvious. Perhaps it takes getting to know the paper before using gouache. #2: WET-ON-DRY, WATERCOLOR, ROUND BRUSH: Predictable, layered BEAUTIFULLY! #3: WET-ON-DRY, WATERCOLOR, WATER BRUSH: Immediate cauliflower effect, "blooming" into an annoying, unmanageable loose flower. #4: WET-ON-DRY, WATERCOLOR & GOUACHE, MOP BRUSH: One flower was unpredictable in the most beautiful sense of the word, but the two wouldn't flow together. Yet again, I believe the problem is gouache. #5: WET-ON-WET, WATERCOLOR, MOP BRUSH: Handled the water surprisingly well, blending and producing a BEAUTIFUL bleed where the petals touch the leaves! #6: WET-ON-WET, WATERCOLOR & GOUACHE, ROUND BRUSH: Rather than blending and bleeding, it remained stagnant, w/ blooming cauliflower issue. The "least best" results. #7: DRY-ON-DRY/WATERCOLOR, DAMP, ROUND BRUSH: Rough, w/ lovely, bold colors.I #8: Can't take more than two layers of wet-on-dry w/ gouache and watercolor.
