I was very skeptical when I received the comb. I thought wow $40 the others were $5 $6 well throw the five and six dollar ones away. I have a Great Pyrenees who absolutely loves to run through burs and brambles and they get stuck in everything under her little armpits all under her belly in her tail and I thought well I have tried every comb and brush in my box which was 10 of them and I bought the Mars dematting comb ran it through her fur and the burs came out effortlessly, the other Combs and brushes I had to literally pull her hair out or take scissors and trim not with the Mars you just brush it through her fur it's beautiful and she loves being brushed with it and she did not like being brushed with the other combs. Her big sister a mix breed Australian shepherd border collie who gets this undercoat that comes out in clumps in the spring this comb did wonders on her coat. I give this five paws. Both my fur babies love being brushed with it. I highly recommend it don't be discouraged by the price it is a very good comb and well made.

My dog hates grooming but this tool DOES NOT HURT her and is brilliant at removing uncomfortable undercoat and loose top coat, bet thing I’ve bought for her in 11 years. Wish I’d found it earlier.

UPDATE 07/28/2024I switched over to the Mars Coat King double-wide brushes, 23- and 30-tooth versions, and they have been night-and-day different from the original small version. These work. They are not miracle workers! Don't expect them to detangle the mats without some additional effort before you begin. I need t use a wide-toothed rake and a comb to get started, and these do the finishing work.In spite of the furry little idiot splashing in the creek every day, I can keep him groomed for three months now. Before, he had to be professionally groomed every three weeks if I didn't want him clipped. As I commented earlier, the initial problem was my fault - I had the wrong tool for the job at hand - and it had nothing to do with these brushes. They're great.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------UPDATE 05/12/2023The seller contacted me through Amazon and offered to make it right, which is amazing, but I declined their offer. I tried to make sure everyone understood my problem was using this tool on an Australian Shepherd with long, "crinkly" hair, and his coat probably contributed to the tool tugging on tangles. In my opinion, that's not the fault of the tool itself.I won't change my three-star rating for the effectiveness of the tool with MY Australian Shepherd, but I cannot recommend Oliver's Pet Care's customer service more highly. They're fantastic folk.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I live with an Australian Shepherd. Aussies have a dense undercoat they shed year 'round and I've tried every undercoat rake and comb I could find to keep him well groomed, but still need a professional groomer once each month to keep him from becoming one big tangle. Then I tried these Mars de-matters. They're almost great. Nothing I've used before now has done one-tenth as good for removing loose undercoat. They're fantastic as an undercoat rake.So far, they aren't as great with tangled or matted fur. The hype about tools like this claims they're gentler on the dog when removing or de-tangled their hair, but so far, after four brushings, I don't think that's true.He likes being brushed. He likes it a lot. But he's not happy when I get to work with the Mars de-matting tool.I've watched videos of how to use them and I'm pretty darned sure I'm doing it correctly, but even in areas where there are no tangles, these drag through his hair and I can see how that would get old real quick.Maybe I'll get better with it over time, and his coat is much softer and fluffier after using this tool, but I won't testify that it's gentle on him, tangled hair or no tangles.Australian Shepherds do not have silky hair. Their coat is almost the exact opposite of silky, and I have no doubt that's part of the reason the Mars de-matter drags through is hair and tugs on it more than I expected it would.I'm fence-straddling by giving it a three-star rating, neither positive or negative. It works great (five stars) but it tugs at his hair (one star) when I use it. Your mileage may vary.In spite of the downside I'm experiencing, this is a solid, very well-made tool and it does it's job of removing his undercoat before it can form a mat. I'd recommend it, especially if, like me, you live with a fuzzy, hairy dog who loves to leap into any kind of water he can find every chance he gets.

I'm amazed how well this works! After using it a few times per week, we notice a big difference in dog hair around the house especially on the couch!! For reference we have a border collie, his fur is mixed length. Highly recommend.

I’ve tried numerous brushes and found them all good but this is ridiculously good. All this came out very easiest and quickly and in rush her every night with her old brush! It’s sturdy and feels like it’ll last forever. Very impressed.

My long aired German sheperd's heading was creating so much mess in my house and had seen the Mars comb highly rated on HSD forums. It took 20 days to arrive from the U.S. to Australia. On arrival its much smaller than I anticipated but man it packs a punch. My GSD girls gets so many matted areas of fur caused by the weed seeds on my property and this comb glides through her coat quickly stripping these areas. Her coat is so lighter now and I'm sure more comfortable for my girl in the Australian heat.Love it and well worth the cost and wait for anyone with a long haired animal.

I probably have the only Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in the world who doesn't like being brushed, but that's probably because I don't do it often enough, which means he gets lots of little matts, so his fur gets pulled a lot whether I brush him or rake him. Then what happens is that the matts get so numerous that I end up having to have him professionally groomed, and his fur ends up shorter than I would like because of the matts. My cavalier also has thicker, curlier fur than some other cavaliers, which makes brushing difficult.I bought this on the recommendation of a lot of other cavalier owners who swear by it. I had looked at the Furminator but was turned off by the cost and mixed reviews. Between the great feedback from other cavalier owners and the almost perfect rating here on Amazon, I decided to go for it.I just received it today and immediately sat down to use it on my Winston. He usually welcomes the opportunity to sit in my lap but ran like hell because he must have seen a brush-like object in my hand. I can't use treats to coax him because then I'll have our four other dogs in our faces, stressing Winston out even more. My husband had to grab him and cuddle him while I started on his back, which I figured was the safest place to start. After a couple of minutes of working on Winston's back, he realized that this process wasn't going to hurt and turned into his usual trusting, lovebug self. He laid on his back and his side and happily let me groom him! The Mars Coat King got out all of his excess fur, including lots of little knots, without much effort at all! I couldn't believe how little pulling I had to do. In about fifteen minutes' time, I had a little bag of fur about half the size of my 22-lb Winston, and his fur looks wonderful!I tried it on our newest rescue, a cocker-cavalier mix with lots of matts in his ears (that were there when we adopted him). We wanted to give this a try before sending him to the groomers to shave his ear fur down (which makes me sad), but all the Mars Coat King did was pull his ear fur and make him squeak :( So this will not work on severe matting, which we expected. Poor Alfie is off to the groomer tomorrow. If you're like me and don't have the time to brush your dog every day, all day, this is the tool for you! I loved that the fur didn't go flying all over the place and stayed stuck in the blades until I pulled it out, which was really easy. Every time I've brushed my dogs in the past, I've ended up with a pile of fur plus little fur-tumbleweeds all over the place. Not so with the Mars Coat King. I'm a believer and see myself using this regularly! I can't wait to see how nice his fur will be with long-term use, and I imagine he will need to see the groomer a lot less often.
