I bought these thinking that they would be great to aerate the yard. They are a well made product, but I haven't actually found myself using them a lot. The earth needs to be moist and you need to be able to strap them on at that time and carefully (so you don't fall) & systematically stomp through your yard. I am not sure how much they really benefit/aerate the soil. The holes close up as soon as the earth is wet again.

These spikes for the grass came just like I expected. They work pretty well, just I wear a size 10 and the front straps came off the shoes a couple times. May work better if my foot was bigger. Feel like walking in mud but that is to be expected.

Only good if you are trying to create holes in the soil to loosen for water and nutrients. It's not good for true aerating and over seeding. The spikes are too long and thin so hard for seed to go in and too deep for germination. Need thicker and shorter spikes so you also don't get stuck on softer soil. On soft grass or soil will pull up large chucks and get stuck on the bottom causing an imbalance as you walk so hard on ankles. Tennis shoes will work but need to really strap it tight or the flats will twist and slip.

So “fun” may not be an ideal word that many would use to describe; however, I had a blast! :)Am female, size 6 shoe size, yet these still fit pretty well! A little big and yes, I agree with some of the other reviews that the straps are a bit confusing. To avoid my natural clumsiness, initially strapped my sneakers in first to better understand the right way to get them strapped. Worked perfect! They are easy to stand up in and maneuver through the yard. Although my 77lb Husky was a little spooked by Mama’s new “spiky shoes”!Really had fun, good exercise, did not feel like a chore at all, and my muscles were not bothering me afterward at all!I do highly recommend! Anyone can use these, just go in with a positive mindset and is actually less labor intensive, and more fun!

Funniest thing ever was watching my husband use them! But seriously, a good idea to air rate some zones.

It does what it is supposed to and was easy to use. Put on some heavy duty boots, took a walk on the grass. Now I can do it once every Spring and Fall with ease.

The holes that the spikes leave are too small to really be of any use.

I got some aerating shoes a few years ago but with only 2 straps, they really dug into my feet (ouch!) and my shoes kept sliding around on them - even though I made them as tight as I could - so really they weren’t secure or safe to use. But the Plantnomics shoes have 3 straps, and the way that the heel strap laces through the next one gives you a little more flexibility (and you need that if you’re puncturing really dry sod). The best part is the adjustment you can make for smaller women’s shoes/boots (size 6 to 9) yet my husband can use them too!. These came fully assembled (and also with a wrench) and in a nice storage box. The instructions are clear and illustrated. These work great! We are having a drought so our lawn is looking dead but the parts I’ve aerated are turning green quickly (now that water can reach the roots!) . We realized how much water we were unknowingly wasting w/ our sprinkler system. The water must’ve just stayed on top of the grass and eventually evaporated because It made no difference to our lawn. This is also a great way to exercise. I’m going out to finish saving my lawn now. Get these! You’ll be glad you did.

These aerator shoes meet all my expectations. They punch small holes in the dirt. That's about it. They will not replace a mechanical aerator if your soil is heavy - such as clay. Mine is sandy and the spikes make nice small holes to allow nutrients and water to get in more easily. I have noticed that where I have thin grass and spend additional time in those areas, the grass is spreading more quickly into the areas. Just what I wanted. Don't expect the results of an annual aeration costing $100+, but you should see decent results of your efforts. I have gone over my yard (4000 sq ft) twice. The first time I covered all of it. Not just walking, but taking small steps and covering all areas pretty thoroughly. The second time, a month later, I just hit the areas that had thin grass spots. I am seeing improvements. They take a little getting used to, but if you have reasonable balance, you can walk in them without too much trouble. Not like a simple stroll, but paying attention, you can get it done. They are a bit tricky, but very usable. Pick your feet up and down straight, don't be sloppy. The spikes will catch if you don't pay attention and your balance will be tested. The first couple minutes where "interesting", but after that I got in the groove and things went smoothly.Negative articles on these type of shoes say they really don't aerate well. Probably true with heavy soils that are compacted. These will not replace the coring process if that's really needed, but with looser soil, they can make a difference. I would buy again, but probably won't have to as these seem to be well made. The straps with velcro seem to hold well if kept tight. If they loosen a bit, be sure to readjust or your balance will definitely be affected.

I love these. Much easier to use than I thought they would be. Sturdy strap & velcro keeps them secure to shoes. I've got bad ankles & had no problem walking in these.Used them yesterday, after the rain, to do front yard. Worked great. Had to pull off freshly fallen leaves but I expected that.I took spike shoes off feet & manually used on newer grass (pressed in ground with hand)... Mud will stick to shoe when wet & pull up grass.I love these & highly recommend.
