Other than a twsbi, this is a great pen. Awesome colors. Quality material. Easy to refill ink. I bought one as a gift for a friend after loving my own. However, advertised as black but the color is def. Brown so it lost one star but it has nothing to do with the mechanics or quality of the pen. I recommend medium or bold nib.

Writes first pen to paper every time. I love Lamy fountain pens, now own four of them. Got a nice leather keeper for my pens from Amazon too. Lamy has become my go-to writing instrument because of the feel, balance, and the ink flow is always there. I stash one in my book tote. These pens aren’t the expensive ones; they’re the reliable ones, durable, no fuss pens. Ink dries quickly (I use a fine point) and the ink storage is perfect. They’re made to fit your grip and my hand doesn’t get tired using them. There’s also the view window so you can check your ink level. Easy to maintain, no leakage - ever.

While not my introduction into the world of fountain pens, this one deserves its reputation as a good starting point. It went on sale, so I picked it up and it’s a reliable, lightweight, easy to learn and understand pen. I never had problems with leakage or ink flow, and that’s even after it’s been mislaid for an hour or two a couple of times. It fits in the hand well, and provides a smooth, pleasant writing experience. While the plastic isn’t my favorite—I like a slightly weightier pen, which simply doesn’t happen with the plastic—it’s something I knew I was signing up for. My one gripe is actually the clip. The safari styled clip is super bulky and, when placed in a shirt pocket, borderline ugly. I tend to make use of the front pocket on my dress shirts, but usually have to leave it in a jacket pocket—or if none are available—a pants pocket. It truly is not pleasant to look at sticking out of a shirt pocket like many other pens are, but that’s really a minor thing compared to the rest of its good performance.

I am knee deep in the stationary and planner communities online, but I haven't been interested in the fountain pen side of these communities. Oh, they're pretty, I love their aesthetic, and online influencers write so beautifully with them! Of course it's crossed my mind to give them a go! But I was content with gel pens and ball point pens and didn't see a need. That is until I developed stiff hands in the evening. Writing became difficult, sometimes even painful, when the temperature drops in my house and my fingers refuse to bend like they used to. I tried hand warmers, and desktop heaters, and I've even introduced typing gloves into my workflow. But some folks recommended I try a fountain pen because the way one holds the pen is quite comfortable and they require no pressure at all to write with.So here we are, with the Lami safari in light rose. I have the F nib, which I find isn't fine enough for me, but that means I get to buy a second one, right? Haha. Setup was easy; I actually owned this for a month before putting it together because I was nervous for some reason, but it only took a few seconds to install the cartridge and everything flowed smoothly after that. The pen is incredibly comfortable to hold. Since you hold fountain pens differently from normal pens, I have had to relearn how to write, but it's been worth it -- the new writing position is incredibly gentle on my fingers, and a lot of my movement has transferred into my wrist, so I'm not relying on my fingers as much to make those minute gestures needed for handwriting. The nib doesn't skip or scratch, and it's quite easy to control the flow of the ink from pen to paper. Having never used a fountain pen before this one, I can honestly say there was very little learning curve, and this is by far the most comfortable writing tool I've used in all my life!

it comes with one blue ink not black and blue as it mentioned! so you have to buy a black ink if you like the black style

Unfortunately this pen started to leak ink after only 3 months. Not worth buying.

When you first learn the basics of fountain pen writing, you need a no-nonsense pen that writes reliably, consistently, helps you learn the best way to hold a pen, is sturdy enough to be dropped off the desk more than once, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.The Lamy Safari does all of that. And when you are ready to go to the next level, try different nibs, or try bottled ink instead of cartridges, the Lamy Safari is still there with you. Since it's a cartridge/converter pen, you can choose how you feed it ink. And if you are capable of putting a one inch long piece of Scotch Tape over your nib and pull it straight out, the nib comes right off and can be replaced by any other Lamy nib (except Lamy 2000 nibs), to include the $130 14k gold nib. Lamy even offers stub nibs in different sizes compatible with the Safari. The nibs are usually steel, and relatively stiff, so line variation is minimal at best. If you put too much pressure on it, and ruin the nib, you can get a replacement from online retailers in 4 regular sizes (EF, F, M, B) and three stub widths (1.1mm, 1.5mm, 1.9mm) as well as a "Cursive Nib) that's designed to write East Asian scripts, starting at $16 each. Installing your new nib takes about five seconds, wait for the feed to fill the nib slit with ink (you can help to prime the nib by squeezing a drop of ink from your cartridge/converter), and you're back in business. The pen's grip section is tri-lobed; the round nib sections has three relatively large flat spots on it to help guide your fingers to hold it in a way that gives you maximum control and the least amount of fatigue. If you've used a different grip to hold your pens/pencils, this may present a bit of a learning curve, but if you have no "bad habits" to unlearn, you'll be writing like a pro in no time.If you're coming from the world of Biros (ballpoint, gel rollers, rollerballs), it will take you a couple of writing sessions to teach your hand that you don't have to press down on the pen to get it to write. The stiffness of this pen's nib will be forgiving for too much pressure without damaging it. A properly tuned fountain pen should be capable of leaving a clearly defined solid line by you holding the tail end with two fingers, the nib on the paper, and you pulling the nib on the paper; downward pressure on the nib is not required, unless something is wrong with the nib, or the ink. With the sturdiness of this pen, and very little abuse, this pen can easily last 20 years...that means it can take you from grade school all the way to your ABA exam...or whichever career goal you have in mind.

It's a fairly standard pen fountain, which is what I expected. It writes beautifully, very smooth. I use a converter in it and am very happy with the pen. For the price-point, you really can't beat the quality and value.
