First, mark the center point for your drill hole using the tip on the extractor. Second, drill a hole in the bolt. Third, drive the bolt extractor into the bore hole until the cutting edges are in full contact with the bolt. Fourth, use a wrench, pliers or socket to remove the bolt out of the thread hole. Lastly, after unscrewing, remove the damaged screw or bolt from the extractor. These are super soft and like others have described the ends smooshed on VERY soft set screws I was trying to remove on the first or second use, so now they're trash. These were always made by Rennsteig so nothing new as far as calling them Knipex (who did/does resell them). They turn out to be chrome vanadium steel which is pretty solid until you start using it as a cutting tool, then you need something really solid like maybe D2 or otherwise. Wrong metallurgy makes a garbage tool, Germany...

Soft metal. Both #1 and #2 rounded off on their first use attempting to extract a mild steel bolt.

First of all, this is not a Knipex tool.I used it once and it looks damaged already, I would never buy again...

NOT knipex. Deliberately misrepresented. Whether or not they're still worth a damn remains to be seen. The first two sentences in this rating were supplied for me, along with "Still good." I'm rating them one notch lower than I expect because this item was deliberately misrepresented. Left-handed easy outs are hard to find at all.

Junk. Doesn't work. I have several different types and these are by far the worst. Have never been able to extract even a single thing with them. Go with the snap on shorties
