I like the fit of the k&n filter in the afe box. I never liked the way the afe box design which had foam around top that supposedly sealed to underside of hood to create a cold air intake. So I did some YouTube research on cast acrylic and made a true cold air intake. To make the mold I placed painters tape across the afe box, then tape length ways then tape back across box, then cut out oversized section of 3/16”cast acrylic (shrinks some when heated) and heat it in oven to 250-260F or to pliable then laid on tape mold on top of box. It will drape or contour with the the shape of the tape, lightly press down to the supporting edges of box and rest of it will follow. Also used scrap pvs square strips (also heated same way) to attach to side of box to attach acrylic with screws. Also used 1/8” adhesive gasket to seal acrylic which I also purchased on amazon. Now my 7.3 with almost 400,000 miles has a true cold air intake.

The filter that comes is the original K&N RE-0870 filter, which is a fantastic filter. When I looked up my filter here for a replacement I saw what looked to be the new style K&N and was excited to order it.What came was the old style, a very good filter and the price is excellent so I kept it. Maybe the seller could show the correct filter that they are selling. Normally this would be a 5 star review but considering the picture is incorrect I gave it 3 stars.
