I admit I have not used this as much as I thought. But when I do it can say it does an excellent job. On some repairs it is set and go. But on others it takes a steady hand, and/or quick reflexes to set the tape properly, the rest is easy. I guess one could say it takes skill and patience to get the best results. Once the center strip is set in place properly it does an excellent job. Best to practice on books where exactitude won't matter as much. I practice on cheap mass market novels that did not stand the test of time very well. One thing it does not always conceal itself, and adds bulk. so the repair may show. From that I am learning; I am still a beginner. There maybe other products like a thin semi-transparent paper tape with the right adhesive. There maybe tools to help in the setting process. I am still looking. One more thing. Gutters. Gutters are the margins closest to the binding seam. Sometimes gutters are very narrow and one will have to trim the tape to fit. I think a rolling or maybe a hinged knife cutter may be the best solution in that circumstance. Trim on both sides of the center strip to keep it centered. Not all books open flat and it is awkward to hold the book open and set the tape. There are several approaches depending on the characteristics of the book, there is no single solution.
