I needed to drill holes for dowels and purchased this. I'm not sure if it cuts slightly oversized or the dowels I used were under sized. It worked well enough though.

Could not find a 1/4" Forstner bit ANYWHERE within 100 miles near me.Thanks Amazon!The bit was perfect for what i needed. Fitting brass rods into walnut. The rods were near dead on 1/4" diameter and this bit cut the perfect size hole. Very tight. Very clean. Solid bit.I have another size bit from Irwin and it has held up for years, so I expect the same with this bit.Recommend over Diablo/Freued for the cost savings.

I bought this bit for my drill press, as I was unsatisfied with my DW 1/4in brad point bit's tolerances. This was a marked improvement, but I also bought the (red brand that makes other cutting tools) at the same time, which was twice the price, and it was a marked improvement over this bit. This bit heats up fast, even at low RPMs, with multiple passes. The red brand stays much cooler and has never clogged. This occasionally clogs, and produces a lot more dust than the red one, which produces almost entirely shavings.I am happy with this at the price, but for those times where I need a dead on, perfect hole, this won't be the one I reach for. What I appreciate is that I can reach for this one when I need holes that are better than DW brad points, but they don't have to be wildly accurate. I can increase the life of the nicer one by using this for projects that aren't as important.I'd buy this again as a beat it up bit, which is right where the price is at, which led me to go with a 4/5. It is exactly what I would expect for the price, no more, no less.
