I bought these to replace the set I bought years ago at Harbor Freight. I know you get what you pay for. My Harbor Freight Forstner bits even brand new were never as sharp as these are. Holy Cow. These cut like butter. They are very sharp and my Harbor Freight bits had kind of a dull edge even brand new. Whenever I used to cut with the old bits I pressed hard and wiggled them back and forth thinking that would help it dig in better. These cut so clean and effortlessly. Can’t believe it. I’m sorry but on tools you just can’t trust Harbor Freight. Spend a little extra and get something good quality. It saves you so much in the long run.

I had a bunch of holes to drill into some quarter-inch poplar for a couple organization projects and much as they've worked great in cedar, the Irwin set I have with a round shank kept slipping in my handheld drill chuck anytime it caught the tiniest bit. These were exactly what I needed at a great price! The hex shank keeps them in place, keeps the bit spinning, and they cut through a dozen holes each like a hot knife through butter. That said, I don't know how long they'll last since I don't use forstner bits much. The case is also both nice and junk. It would be great if the clear plastic front panel were attached in any way. It's just loosely snapped into tiny little grooves around the back, and just squeezing lightly when picking it up I accidentally popped it out into the case. I'll try gluing it and then it should be fine, don't need it filling with sawdust sitting in the organizer under my workbench.

I bought a set of Harbor Freight forstner bits, used them one time for three holes and they were dull. Totally wasted money so I found these and gave them a try.First, they are wrapped individually and are packed in a pretty sturdy case. However a few were out of place but honestly no big deal.I have them a try right away and they are worked perfect! They go right through wood like cutting through butter with a hot knife. They seem to keep their sharpness. When comparing these to the Harbor Freight brand, you can certainly tell a difference. These are accurate, you don't have to fight with them because of dullness, and they bore through wood without any problem..plus they come in a very sturdy case.Overall I give them 5 stars.

Really just needed the 1” bit for a project, but I don’t have any forstner bits, and the price per bit works out to be a bargain. The bit worked perfectly, nice clean hole. Didn’t bite too fast, and I easily controlled the depth, even at max RPM.Be advised, despite having a “hex shank”, these bits will not fit into a quick-release hex chuck. The storage box is ok for what it is, I don’t buy tools for the box. 😄

Works as expected, and a great value for the price. I use the shank bits in my smaller drill press and haven’t experienced any issues thus far. If that changes, I will update my review. The only reason for a 4 rating is because the carrying case it comes with is flimsy and junk. The clear plastic viewing window is made of very cheap, extremely thin plastic and broke as soon as I took it out of the Amazon box. The “holding inserts” where the bits sit in doesn’t hold them in place. As soon as you lift the plastic container, the bits fall out and rattle around freely. Because of this, I had to cut the top completely off of the bottom and use it store my bits inside a rolling tool box shelf flat. If you want to travel with these bits in your truck, mobile tool box etc, they will bounce around and ding each other in the cheap case.

The edges of the blades and teeth are visibly nicked &/or rough in some places, but they seem good enough for my purposes. I drilled a 2+1/8" hole with my drill press, and it made a smooth flat-bottomed hole except for on little circular scratch from a nick. I would NOT say it cut through the wood like butter, but I took my time. The bits were delivered all snug in their holders. The case will keep holding the bits in place even if the cheap hinges and latches break off - shouldn't cause me any problems.Even though I'm dissapointed in the sharpness, I feel I still got a good value for my money, and these will probably serve me well for occasional work around my home. Mostly, I like the large selection of sizes and the low price.

First, let me state that for the money this set of bits is great. They cut wood like butter, there doesn't appear to be any problems with runout, and the case is conveniently labeled with a spot for each bit.The only issues are when you first receive the kit. Each bit is individually wrapped in plastic and you'll need to pull them out to place them into the case. The bits will probably have come loose during shipping, but this does not appear to have damaged the bits or the case itself. The case itself is fairly cheap plastic and for some weird reason it has that plastic texture that prevents you from attaching a label to it. Dunno why they insist on applying a texture to something that's going to sit on a shelf for most of its life, but there you go.In my case, there are a couple of cracks in the clear plastic window of the case. Do I care? No. The case holds the bits and keeps them organized. I'm not displaying my tools, I'm just trying to keep them from wandering. But if this matters to you, you may have to send the bits & case back a couple times to get a pristine one.
