These are hefty and well made. They don't feel cheap at all. I used it to hold a tap in place for a ratchet and it held the tap nice and tight.

i got my tap and die set stolen and am working on replacing stuff. irwin tends to be USA made and very good quality. one never knows about imported steel, i've learned not to trust it with anything important.

Very good Value for money/usage can not fault. would have preferred better quality and payed more.may replace with American or Japanese when worn out.i use these with a Koken through ratchet and a tee bar 3/8" drive. i find this labour saving accurate and simple. do away with Traditional Tap holders and small adjustable, this devise from who ever is the way ahead.

Das Werkzeug ist super, es ist dazu gedacht Gewindebohrer aufzunehmen. Tap ist in diesen Fall der Gewindebohrer und nicht der Wasserhahn

The larger of the two does work with a 1/8 NPT tap. That is the larges this set will support. I only used it to hold the tap to cut threads in a piece of cast aluminum so not the toughest material but for my use it worked great. I used a 3" extension and a Proto 3/8 sliding T-Handle to act as my tap handle. Worked great. I've see those sliding handles before but could never figure out why you would want one. Now I know.

I needed to use a 12-24 tap in a space where a wide tap wrench wouldn't fit. Most tap socket sets don't include any for the .165" square on that tap. Having just 2 sockets which accommodate a wide range of taps, both inch and metric, is a big convenience. The sockets also work well and are reasonably priced. The only downside is they're slightly larger in diameter than those in fixed-size sets.

Amazing product. Fits any size tap you have in your tool box and you can use a normal ratchet with them instead of flipping the bar on normal tap drivers. I use these all the time and makes my life so much easier. I don't have to look for the right size socket anymore or use the old school way. Time is money and these are well worth the money.

This is the perfect accessory for tapping holes easily. Although it is meant to be used with a ratchet and extension, I bought it to use with a cordless drill. I just used a 3/8 socket adapter chucked in the drill and this makes quick and easy work of tapping holes. Of course you have to be careful and set the clutch at a low setting, using a higher setting as needed. I've broken multiple taps using a standard tap handle, even the ratcheting type, but I've never broken one using a cordless drill. It's much easier to keep the torque in line with the axis of the tap. My issue has always been trying to keep the tap from slipping in the chuck. This solves my problem and worked great on the four holes I've already done.

I've been using these about a month now. I'm thoroughly pleased with the quality. Wanted a "floating" tap holder for power tapping on the lathe, and didn't want to spend a full day in the shop (well, I get half a day at a time max in my shop) making my own solution. I was searching Amazon for a manual tap driver that I could modify (remove cross bar and mill 3 flats on the shaft to securely hold in a drill chuck) when I came across these and realized they would work perfectly for my needs. I just use a 3/8" square drive impact driver adapter mounted in a keyless drill chuck in the tailstock. Works great. The non-rigid connection to that adapter allows the angle and position to adjust slightly which compensates for the slight sag that comes with a tailstock that is left loose so the tap pulls the tailstock toward the chuck. Tap follows the properly sized pilot hole. Probably wouldn't work well on very deep tapped holes (rigid setup for perfect eccentricity would be ideal), but I'm typically only tapping a max depth of 2x the tap diameter. I've used this approach dozens of times now and I love it. Wish I had found it sooner.Added benefit: I can also use them with a ratchet for bench work with larger taps, as designed. Funny to me that the designed purpose is just an added benefit for me. :)
