A few years ago I found these flip-top mittens on Amazon and thought they looked exactly like what I was searching for. Being able to flip up the top of the mittens so I can use my fingers is a godsend. I've tried the gloves that claim you can still use your smartphone with your index finger, but in my case that turned out to be a false claim for those gloves. So I bought a pair of these mittens and loved them! Very warm and comfortable. The Velcro does a great job of keeping the top part of the mittens in place when I need my fingers or it's not quite that cold out. And it's simple to pull the top mitten part back over my fingers and attach the top part to the Velcro. The leather patches on the palm are helpful to grip my car keys, my smartphone, or whatever I may be holding or gripping. The patches add friction so you can hold onto items securely.Overall, I'd highly recommend these flip-top mittens. They are soft, warm, comfortable, don't show everyday dust or dirt, and they even cover my wrists very well so I'm warm with no gap between my coat sleeves and my mittens. Toss in the fact that the top flips up so you can still use your smartphone, and, well, that seals the deal for me to the point that I replaced the pair I lost with the same gloves!I can't think of a better endorsement than that.

Edit: I am changing my review from 2 to 4 stars. I contacted Hot Shot customer service through their website. They immediately responded and shipped me a replacement. I am hoping the one mitten was just an anomaly. For such and affordable glove, the customer service blew me away. I will try and update on how the replacement continues to last. If it looks good, I have my eye on some other hot shot gear for outdoor recreation. Good customer service can be hard to find and won me over in this case despite the quickly failing thumb in the one mitten. Again, I am hoping that was just an anomaly and these continue to last.Original Post: These were fantastic mittens for the first 1-2 months of use. Purchased in mid November 2019. It is now the beginning of January 2020 and the thumb hole stitching is coming open. I don't use these gloves a lot. Mainly just for commuting. Other than that these gloves are extremely warm and versatile. I where a size Large or Xtra Large nitrile glove and these fit my hands perfectly. They were only $10, so I guess I wasn't expecting the best quality.

Very warm and feel like they are good quality. The only negative is the small Velcro squares that hold the mitten part back when not in use. They aren’t well sewn so I don’t think they will last.

These are fantastic. They are warm and soft. I got these for my husband, who needs his fingers to work his phone, or to fiddle with whatever he is fiddling with, and then to be closed up so he keeps warm. He found mittens to be "girly", so I thought these may change his mind. Aaand, they did. He loves them. My husband is a notorious cheapskate, and balked at spending the money on these...until he tried them. An after Christmas sale turned up with similar gloves (40 weight, thinsulate, blah blah), and because these were a hit with everyone at Christmas, he thought he would get some for the family, as our 3 sets together didn't cost what these did. But in side by side comparison, the quality of these were evident. The grip runs up the thumb on these. And, although they were both labeled at the same same weight wool, these were heavier, softer, warmer and better quality. Now he just makes fun of us for have cheap knock off gloves, and not to touch his.

Bought these for cold weather fishng. I had a pair of similar gloves that I wore out. These ones are quite sturdy. Because they are wool, they retain their thermal value even when wet. The thinsulate lining is thin, but helps add a layer of protection. With the pair I got, I ended up cutting off the tip of the thumbs to make it easier to tie line. I wish that I had left the tip of the thumb partially attached, but I am able to tuck my thumbs into the flap that covers the fingers. These are ragg wool gloves. As a result, they are not the most stylish, nor will they last for a long time if used constantly. However, they are warm and the leather palm patch helps with durability. I've had these for over a year and so far, no complaints.

6 years later my girlfriend uses this same pair every winter, she loves them.I've switched to a leather pair lined with wool because they are easier to clean. These are what you would expect. Thick, good quality, no loose stitching, great insulation, nice leather grip area. The Velcro is small but it does the job you don't want your Mitten held back to strong because then you have to take your gloves off to flip it around. Love them, have them beside me in the truck right now.I wish they came in black or a bright safety cover, I use them in my EMS job daily.

I purchase these as an alternative to thin or lightweight "wind-resistant" gloves that proved to be no such thing. I wanted gloves that could be kept in my car to be worn when driving, but also outside for smoking as well as for activities in the snow, yard cleaning, etc. I live in Maryland, but travel between Minnesota and Maryland frequently and have found these gloves to be a Godsend. They're thick and warm with a thinsulate lining. They're not windproof, but with the mitten cover, I find it easy to warm my fingers up quickly. During winter shoveling, I found that in temps down to about -20, my fingers did chill within about half an hour of being outside. But if I inserted glove warmers in the mitten section on the backs of my fingers, my fingers actually got quite warm and felt perfectly insulated for hours outside. For temps in the 20s and 30s, I was fine outside without glove warmers- as long as I was moving around doing some kind of work activity. These gloves do feel thick and well-padded. The material, as expected, provides no resistance to water. So they were pretty terrible in a snowball fight. They kept my fingers warm and protected for maybe 20 minutes before the water from melted ice started to seep through, weigh down the gloves, and chill my fingers. But it's also obvious that these gloves weren't meant for that kind of activity. As a driving glove, I find that it's thickness makes it a little awkward for me. I like the warmth, but I don't like the bulk. I also drive more with my fingertips and don't enjoy how readily my hands can't grip the wheel or the gearshift, so for now, I'll stick with my leather driving gloves- less warmth, but more control. But for a general purpose work glove, this is definitely a superb product. As to fit, I'm a woman with large hands. I'm a nurse, and find that i'm in between sizes for most gloves. For latex gloves I comfortably wear a medium, though the finger length tends to be a little short for me, but large gloves are just too big. So I tend to buy gloves that fit between a Men's Medium or Large, or a Women's Large to XL when available. Ring Size is an 8 and an 8.5 on my left and right ring fingers, respectively. I don't have a measure with me, but I'd say my middle fingers about 3.5-4" base to tip. This glove feels perfectly comfortable to me. It's quite literally the perfect size for my fingers. It doesn't feel too big or too small, it's just comfortable. And it's definitely an excellent glove for 20 to 50 degree weather; with the use of hand warmers, it's even better for those sub-zero temps. Just don't expect it to be windproof, because IT IS NOT!
