I had one for decades, but then lost it when I moved and I've been looking to buy a new one for years; however, it seems local shops are now only carrying modern style onion choppers that merely bash up/mash up onions without actually chopping them, so I'm so happy to find the classic (effective) onion chopper featured here :)The quality of this one is standard and just as described. The design of this device is simple, so it's easy to operate and clean. It's perfect when you just need to quickly chop/prep a small amount of food (like an onion, garlic, a celery stalk, some herbs, etc.) without having to drag out and plug in a food processor or one of those cumbersome box-type contraptions. This chopper is light enough to just grab with one hand, deposit a few peeled sections of onion and start plunging the bladed shaft up and down until you reach your desired fineness of chopped or minced pieces (which happens relatively fast).I'd like to highlight that this device is perfect for people like me, who don't have the level of dexterity to utilize the knife skills necessary to quickly chop onions and the like.I also enjoy the fact that chopping with this device takes place inside an enclosed glass, so it reduces/avoids...*the accidental cuts which sometimes happen while chopping food with an exposed blade*the direct exposure of sensitive eyes and noses to the Sulphur released when chopping onions*the stinging/burning on fingers from chopping certain chilies by hand*the staining associated with chopping certain beets/beetroot and similar foods*the quick oxidation of prepped ingredients waiting to be added to the main recipeNeedless to say, I can definitely recommend it :)

Just like the one my mother had decades ago. No need to improve on perfection. Also easy clean up. Used to chop/dice onions and jalapeño slices into small pieces.I would buy again.

Very Good chopping of walnuts for baking purposes. Easy to use with size and shape. Can firmly hold without slipping and sliding. Cleaning is very easy to do with warm water and dish soap. Had one that lasted over 25 years and finally needed replaced since blades were no longer as sharp as when purchased. Wanted the same model again and found it.

This is a pretty simple machine and feels a bit fragile but it does a great job. I like frozen cherries in my overnight oats and I use this to chop them smaller. It works great and quickly despite the cherries being frozen and a bit tough to chop.

When I was young, my family had a food chopper consisting of a large jar of heavy-duty glass and a thick wooden disk at the bottom. The lid featured a sturdy spring handle you held and pushed up and down. I remember watching my mother use it to chop various food items, and eventually, I started using it, too. It was a reliable kitchen tool built to last. When I recently decided to purchase a chopper, I noticed many require you to smack the handle. However, years ago, I once used my hand to hit a specific item repeatedly, damaging my palm and requiring medical intervention from an orthopedic surgeon. Our hands contain many nerves and blood vessels. They weren’t designed to function like hammers. Therefore, I chose to buy this chopper because it seemed to operate similarly to the one I used 70 years ago.I was highly disappointed! During the first attempt to use it, it broke. I immediately contacted Amazon, and to their credit, they promptly refunded the purchase. This chopper’s makeup never matched my childhood version – structurally or functionally.

I used to use my Grandma's original one of these and it was heavier and more sturdily built. I was a fool to get rid of it at the time. This product works, it's just lighter and doesn't have that heavy, sturdy, built-to-last feel, but it chops pretty much the same. It's slightly smaller too so you need to quarter your regular sized onion to make sure it fits in and is able to chop. It works good enough for me to keep and use and yes I'd recommend. It takes up less space and does a better job than some other more modern choppers I've tried. It works well for garlic and ginger as well. Of course you're not gonna get an even chop but it does work.

I purchased the HIC Manual Nut Chopper by Harold Import Co. and I must say, it has been a game changer in my baking routine! As someone who frequently uses nuts in my recipes, I was tired of spending so much time chopping them up with a knife. This chopper has saved me a lot of time and effort, and it was definitely worth the price. The chopper is easy to use and clean, and it feels sturdy and well-made. However, I did find that it struggled with harder nuts like almonds. That being said, it works great for softer nuts like pecans and walnuts.Overall, I highly recommend the HIC Manual Nut Chopper to anyone who frequently uses nuts in their cooking or baking. It's a fantastic investment that will save you time and energy in the kitchen

I have an American made one of these and now a Chinese made one. The American made is heftier and about 4 oz larger. It has blades that are 90 deg apart. It has a larger mouth so is easier to get your hands in for cleaning and the plastic disc is larger and heavier and there is not very much play in the plunger. You can still buy these in stores and charity places. The Chinese one is smaller making it harder to get your hands into for any cleaning. There is a lot of play in the plunger and the blades are paper thin. The thin plastic lid wants to pop off easily and so you have to hold it on. The plastic disc is thin and softer plastic which can be picked up and tossed around inside. I have only used it for strawberries and soft white onions. I was afraid to try to chop and nuts. The blades are angled about 45 deg on the sides instead of 90. For the price, Id go the store and buy the American one off the shelf. I've chopped everything in that one with no problem.
