For better image clarity:

  • Inspecting distance: Recommended within 6.56 feet
  • Inspecting Time: Early morning or night that with significant temperature difference.
  • Color Palettes: Choose appropriate palette based on the scene being observedlike gray for focusing on details, rainbow for high contrast, and iron for general use.

  • The HF96 is equipped with emissivity parameters for common objects. (e.g. metal, ceramic, cement, etc.)
  • Select the the emissivity according to the material to be measured before the inspection, and adjust an approximate temperature range to ensure more accurate temperature measurements.
  • For better readings accuracy, it is recommended to keep regular-sized targets within 6.56 feet (2 meters) of the thermal camera. If the target is larger, you can increase the distance to achieve a wider angle of view.

FAQ

Q1: Can a thermal imager see through walls?

Thermal imagers create images by capturing the thermal radiation on the surface of objects, and it is unable to see through walls unless there is a sufficient temperature difference behind them.

Q2: Can a thermal imager detect mold?

The process of mold growth often accompanies the release or absorption of heat, which may lead to changes in the temperature of its surrounding environment. However, since mold itself may not directly emit sufficient thermal radiation to be captured by a thermal imager, we recommend using it as part of a comprehensive mold inspection process that includes visual inspection, humidity testing, and possible air sampling to more accurately identify potential risk points.

Q3: How does a thermal imager detect water leaks?

Step 1. Selection of Testing Time: It is recommended to test the building after it has been subjected to thermal loads (e.g., after sunlight exposure on a hot, dry, sunny day) because the temperature difference between the leaking area and the normal area will be more pronounced at this time.

Step 2. Perform a Water Pressure Test: Use a water pressure gauge to check the water pressure at each faucet and fixture. Utilize a pressurizing device to determine if the water line is maintaining proper pressure. If there is a drop in water pressure, it can help determine if the cold or hot water line is leaking.

Step 3. Using Thermal Imager: If the leak is in the hot water line, let the hot water run for 15-30 minutes until the temperature of the water line is visible on the thermal imaging device. Check the location of the leak along the hot water line. If the leak is in the cold water line, pour hot water into the cold water line and wait 15-30 minutes to observe.

Q4. Why does the thermal imager occasionally calibrate itself?

Thermal imaging cameras are automatically calibrated to changes in ambient temperature to counteract the effect of changes on the accuracy of the detector. This process usually occurs when the camera is moving quickly or when it is first switched on, the screen will stutter and display ‘calibrating’ and there may be a ‘clicking’ sound from within the instrument.

I bought this thermal camera in the hopes that it would help me in finding a cat that likes to hide in very difficult spots in my house. The very first time I used it, it was able to pick out the spot she was hiding in my basement ceiling.I used it again a few days later when I was outside at night, and I was able to spot a rabbit on the screen clearly from over 40 ft away.The settings make it easily customizable for whatever tasks you are using it for, and it's extremely user friendly. Absolutely worth every dollar I spent on it!

Excellent thermal imaging and camera.For the price this device is very effective and useful in finding cold spots and air leaks.So far batteries have stood up well and the unit works well to detect cold ingress in my house, as well as heat loss outside the house.Interestingly enough when set at the longest range settings this little device will see animals at night not visible up to a half mile away.Good value!

Had it a few days. Ordered it to find radiant heat lines in concrete. Turned the boiler up and 15 minutes later I could pick out the individual lines no problem. It identified the rafters inside our house when pointed at the ceiling. We’re in a cold climate in ND winter so the rafter are colder. The temps seemed fairly accurate and matched outdoor temps or temps on our thermostats in various places. Nice packaging and manuals. Easy to setup and easy to use so far! Hope it holds up.

I had cold spots in my home. It turned oth that the cold wasn't only coming from the expected suspects where one you'd be inclined to guess (windows, doors).This device is a must have. It is sensitive and provides relatively good indication of where the hot and cold spots are and it showed me that patches on the ceiling, walls, vents, electrical outlet were also letting cold air in.With the device I was able to plan repairs without someone putting me under pressure to decide what to do when they were in fron of me. To me it was worth every penny in terms of figuring out what needs to be prioritized.There are many other uses involving heat such as detecting vampire devices - those that use significant amount of power even though they are supposed to be off. I was truly surprised at first how many of them I had in the house.I would recommend to get this infrared camera.

This camera has been exceptional for home maintenance, offering clear thermal images than my previous camera, i tried other brand “240*240” device before but the image was not as clear as advertised. Anyway I guess it's the super resolution function that enhance the image quality. It hleped me improve my ability to identify and address issues like air leaks and insulation problems.This product is good choise at short range applications.The closer the distance, the better the image.

This camera features a basic design with a strong housing. It includes a power switch and four buttons.Great for saving images and USB for file transfers. While the simplicity of the design helps keep costs down. The camera is compact enough to fit comfortably in the hand, enhancing portability for various applications. I've used a lot around the house and in the garage.Its great for practical use, the camera performs well in general heat mapping/finding applications. Item easy to identify temperature variations around the house such as checking if heating elements are functioning uniformly or detecting heat loss around windows.It's a valued tool to have. I have used it to check out many things around the house since I got it and item a very eye opening tool to have.
