I love the shade of brown that is not too dark. Nice and light and happy ...

The 1st bottle I got was purple as shown in the picture (1st swatch). I searched a lot of review on this color and knew there must be issues with this bottle, so I ordered replacement. The new bottle works good and the color is what I expected (2nd swatch).

Simply the best behaved, most beautiful ink I’ve tried. This is the one I keep coming back to. Such a unique, subdued lavender brown cacao color.

I was so torn on whether to purchase the Terre de Feu ink or the Poussiere de Lune, which is a beautiful shade of mauve. I eventually decided on Terre de Feu because I liked the idea of writing letters to friends that looked warm and inviting. And after hours of writing happily with this ink, I'm overjoyed with my choice! It's a beautiful sort of burgundy brown that's very legible without being too dark, so you can still appreciate the gentler notes of the color. The packaging was secure with no leaks. Can't wait to try other Herbin inks!

If you've ever tried J Herbin ink, you know that they're known for wonderful color variety, shading, and nice texture. I liked this ink because it has a very unique color. I'm actually not a huge fan of brown but this one feels less chocolate brown and more ashy/purple. It's beautiful and doesn't feather. Feels very smooth, almost lubricated. It also shades well, and works wonderfully in almost all pens. The only thing is you don't get a lot. The packaging is collectible though, with a nice glass jar and even a rest for a glass dip pen

This is a great leave from black for sketching, and certainly dark enough for writing. It dries extremely fast on absorbent paper, and probably quite fast on smooth paper. This isn't precisely gray and if you're looking for gray there are much, much cheaper alternatives out there which dry just as quickly. The fast-drying and subtle coloration of this gray-purple-brown make it fantastic for ink sketching and washing.

J. Herbin ink is perfect. I recently used their 'Perle Noire' shade in four fountain pens that had begun to skip and stutter, with a disturbing scratchy sound (filled with Jinhao cartridges or 'Winsor & Newton Calligraphy Ink' in converters). I'll never use them in a fountain pen again.... Concerned for my writing instruments, I rinsed each nib and cartridge until the cool water ran clear. Drying the nib gently with tissue and wiping the inside with a QTip, I filled them with my J. Herbin ink -- and observed the improvement in each pen's performance after only a few lines, as the point seemed to slowly remember how it loved to float across the page, leaving a fine trail of ink in its wake. I couldn't wait to try this brand in colors other than 'Black Pearl,' so I rinsed and changed the ink in one pen as soon as this arrived. As each line dried, I watched the color change from dark, neutral grey/brown to deep bronze with a soft patina that made me long for cream colored paper. This color has been compared to the line produced by a soft pencil and I can see the merit of that comparison, but under bright light, I find a subtle hint of green that makes me think of bronze. I could go on, but I need to order some cream-colored paper!

What a lovely color! And what an interesting color! It's definitely brown. Or is it? Maybe it's grey with a brown tint. Or taupe with a lavender undertone.Shading varies, with tons on block letters while cursive gives a more consistent line. Drying time is pretty fast, 3-5 sec, no noticeable feathering or bleed-through, very slight show-through.And it's definitely brown.

I mistakenly wrote a review for J. Herbin Vert Empire here initially, so I am rewriting to reflect Cacao Du Bresil. This is a nice ink. A very unique gray color with hints of brown. When dried, some have compared this to pencil lead (graphite) markings. I would agree with that assessment, it is very similar to a pencil shade but for me is a tad nicer. One point of interest for me is it has taken a few pens to get me to like this ink. It seemed VERY dry in a few pens (pilot for example) and I did not like the outcome. But I switched it up and is working well for now. I don't have any other greys at the moment to compare it to, but I would like to try some others to get a different feel.I do like this ink but wasn't wowed by the results. I think there is another grey out there for me, but was not a bad buy to start me on my journey.
