I was very hesitant to spend the money on this head collar, in spite of the great reviews. It's pretty expensive, and I've tried SO MANY no pull harnesses that haven't worked at all for my strong 11 mo old GSD/border collie pup. I'd had a gentle leader in the past, and the dog I had at the time hated it so much that I never wanted to use one again. But this seemed like a better design, so I reluctantly ordered it. WOW - it works, and my pup calmly accepts it. I did do some training to get him comfortable with letting me put it on, and the training video for this Sidekick leash on the Heather's Heros web site was incredibly helpful in teaching me how to respond when the dog at first is evasive, so they learn how to calmly accept it. Watch the video! I did two 5-minute training sessions in the house, and then was able to embark on a walk without any problems. Finally we can go for a walk and get through situations with difficult distractions like barking reactive dogs and dashing squirrels without everything devolving into chaos! I like this leash so much I just ordered a second one for use on my mature husky mix who has a calmer temperament, but loves to happily tow me along down the street. Very well made, sturdy but soft rope, high quality hardware with the rings under the muzzle sized so the pressure releases immediately if the dog is on a loose leash, and a built-in safety strap to attach to the dog's collar.

My dog trainer recommended this leash for working with my reactive dog. He also was pulling on the leash on walks which made walks less enjoyable. This leash has changed all of that! The price felt like a lot when I first purchased it, but now I think it was worth every penny.

Very happy with this product!!!. Our young energetic shepherd was a challenge to walk and control. It was an immediate transformation with the Sidekick Dog Headcollar with leash. Our walks are so much more enjoyable.

My pup constantly pulls on his leash. Our trainer recommended the Sidekick and lent me one to try. After a couple of days I went and ordered it and then I ordered another one (because he chewed up the first one). Pup isnt a fan yet but we are still training with getting it on and over his nose. He is doing some alligator rolls to try and get it off while wearing it so I’m sure it will just take some time. I love how it has a safety clasp and that it can be worn either around the neck or also over the nose. Definitely made of good quality. Seems a little pricey but thick durability and has eliminated pulling from my pup when walking.

Our boy is a young rescue pup -- a Lab, Golden and Flat-Coated retriever mix (just 1 year old) who entered an area rescue group with a history of being tied up. He had rope scars, a halter scar and embedded collar when he was picked up by a shelter as a stray at large (he had also been shaven of his entire coat, so all of that was sadly very visible). I share this history, because I believe our boy gets both excited and eager to walk, but equally gets anxious and quickly over stimulated - putting anything on that resembles his past, such as a leash was often a challenge because he was over the top with enthusiasm, and once accomplished he would put the petal down and pull like a freight train. He clearly learned much of this behavior with pulling to break away from being kept tied for my guess is clearly many, many hours and many, many days. He is incredibly strong for his size - about 80 lbs now but he wants to please and is a smart pup. We had tried lots of things that worked with our other previous dogs to attempt to get the pulling curbed, but nothing truly worked until this collar was suggested. WOW! He did great, and there's of course still room for improvement but we saw AMAZING BEHAVIOR CHANGE just on our first walk. He did "fuss" a bit at the nose piece as the video shares. But we practiced inside first, and he only fussed a bit for the first part of our 1.5 mile walk. He also got "tested" by the one dog he seems to react to the most (not with aggression, but with "oh my gosh, you're a puppy too, lets party")! He attempted to pull, but quickly sat as directed, and it was such a relief that there's no longer such intense pulling that it feels painful to us -- his far less strong humans -- and no more risky leash wrapping around the hand, which so many of us do until we realize that hurts horribly when you are restraining a freight train! I highly recommend this leash, and I am thrilled that we have a tool now that will focus him. His biggest challenge has been pulling, loss of focus with mostly squirrels and sometimes sounds of motorized bikes, and occasionally a dog. When it wasn't rainy season, we would play vigorous fetch before walks in an attempt to wear him out before the struggle! On the first walk he went from walking left, right and center while most often intensely pulling to a nice "almost heal" stride, and when given the opportunity to lead ahead, did so without pulling. By the way, when he entered rescue, his name was Tug...we know why! My advice is be patient, be supportive and calm but also be in control. This leash is a god send!

Bit the bullet on cost since we tend to lose things in my house and this all in one type unit seemed to fix that issue. Works SUPER well for my 65lb mutt-boy. Love that I can use as a slip lead real quick, or as a regular leash. Can be fiddly to put on if your pup is excited but nothing training can't help. Is straightforward to use and seems really durable. Has held up well to camping trips, Hocking Hills hikes and Michigan beaches. I'm sure it'll last for many more adventures to come.

It works great but my dog tries to take it off n used her paws so she ended up scratching her nose. It's a great item if your dog doesn't use paws to get it off

I foster dogs as well as train dogs. I had the pleasure of fostering a 1 yr old dog that was returned to the shelter. Hunter was so scared of everything and reactive in a bad way, so much that he was extremely difficult to walk. This leash/gentle leader was a game changer. I was able to control and train this dog after a brief acclimation period. It truly changed his life, as he calmed and accepted training enough to get adopted!
