It seems to be pretty heavy so it should stay put.

This heat tape is a life saver; I forgot to turn off the water supply to this 18 foot exterior PEX water line that feeds a faucet outside my garage. I zip tied the heat tape along the length of the exposed PEX and then wrapped both the hose and the heat tape in foam pipe insulation. 6 hours later, the spigot was running water without a problem. Very happy with the results.

This item came at the most absolutely perfect time for me! My pumphouse is in the middle of my pasture with horses and llamas. It has an electric wire running around it because believe it or not, horses rub their butts on everything! Anyway, the power went out on the wire and they rubbed their butts on the door to the pumphouse enough to knock it off and I didn't notice timely. Well, here comes a sub-arctic temperatures storm! I had an old electric tape on the pipes and it also had burned out... All of this equals a frozen wellhead. I had gotten this electric tape a bit before the storm and it was absolutely perfect length and type to keep those pipes thawed! Heat gun and a bunch of hours to get water flowing again but that tape has kept it flowing for over a week now without a hitch! Fifteen feet long which seriously, was the perfect length for this application. Easy to apply? Well that has to do with where you're putting it. I had to twist like a snake to get it on but it had nothing to do with the tape. It's thicker than the lesser expensive tapes and feels like it's well made. The one that blew out for me was half the size and really did look and feel like it was on the cheap end.I'm not an expert with this type of product but, for this average Joe Blow, it's great! Fired up without a problem, has been keeping the water going and the last five nights have been from 10-15 degrees. I of course, did put the da*n door back on the pump house which clearly helps BUT, without this guy, I would've been back out there with the heat gun... cussing...Great product! 5 stars from me!

I ordered this to go in a location under a part of my house where several different pipes connect. Even after having some insulation and foam board installed there it gets close to freezing. I have had a few busted pipes in this location and the multiple pipes make it a hassle to repair. This heat cable put off some heat. I attempted to get pictures with my thermal but it would not save correctly but prior to installation the pipe temperature was 40 degrees and after it got up to 102 in a few spots on the wire.Although I do not have a lot of experience installing these it was a little more hassle than I thought as the wire is bendable but it does not retain the bend so you have to fight it. I ended up securing an end with aluminum foil tape and then wrapping it.I put the foam insulation back over the pipes and saw no visible signs of anything getting too hot. I have PVC mostly and it did not seem to be getting the pipe too hot either.I did not like the 6 foot power cable part as I would have wanted at least 10 feet but it seems this is the average length for the power cords. I did like the fact that this has a plug that illuminates when it is plugged in which is really nice to know it is working.Overall, this one was about $10 cheaper than another I looked at. On straight pipe this would be fairly easy to install once you get an end secured. It is thin enough to allow pipe insulation to go back over the pipe when you are through which just keeps the heat more on the pipe.
