I recently started a 3D printing project and quickly realized that I would need insert nuts to make the prototype come to a usable object. I didn't want to spend $50-$70 on a heat set insert press, so I added it to my Vine wishlist and put my project off to the side of the bench hoping one would come along. There are assembly instructions included, but it didn't include any instructions on how to use it. The assembly was pretty straight forward and took me about 15 minutes or so and all of the necessary parts were included. The quality of the extrusions and the rail system is very good. One thing to note that isn't included in the instructions is that you have to remove the large silver threaded collar from the included soldering iron, then remove the soldering iron tip. Then you slide the large brass inserter over the white heating element at the end of the soldering iron and reattach the silver sleeve and collar over the brass inserter end. Then you will be ready to rock and roll. The thing is rock solid once assembled and the inserting motion is fantastic. I realized it doesn't include any inserts, so I jumped on ebay and grabbed a 300pk of metric inserts to get started.Once I had it assembled, I jumped on YouTube and found some video tutorials on how to use it, which is pretty easy and within a few minutes I was setting inserts! I typically print with PLA or PLA+ filament and the iron gets adequately hot to set the inserts in the plastic at about 200 degrees. If you are a hobbyist and need to set occasional heat set nuts, this should work great!

This is a light duty hobby grade tool. For whatever reason, the box is not in English, I believe it's in German. The assembly instructions are in several languages.Speaking of the instructions, the only instructions are for assembly. They are machine translated and can be difficult to read, but between the text, the pictures on the instructions, and the box picture, I was able to get the press assembled. I did have some difficulty in attaching the iron to the frame, and also found that the cable clips are almost useless since the top one pops out constantly. I plan to glue that one in as a workaround. There are NO usage instructions. Considering I've never used a tool like this before, I didn't realize at first that the included soldering iron tip should be removed and one of the brass pieces takes its place. It was somewhat clearer once I took a closer look at the picture on the box.The soldering iron is basic, but heats up relatively quickly, and has a digital temperature readout. I don't know how accurate it is, though. It claimed to get up to temperature quicker that I would have expected based on my other irons with similar designs. You will need light on the temperature display to see it, it's an LCD not an LED display. An LED display, or at least a power indicator light would have been nice as a safety precaution so it doesn't accidentally get left on.Overall, it greatly expands my capabilities in my workshop, and I forsee using it for more than just 3D printing projects. It will also come in handy for repairing old laptop shells and other plastic things like that.I would say this is at least worth a consideration.
